5 golfers who massively improved on their 2023 FedEx Cup finishes in 2024 ft. Justin Thomas
Last week, Scottie Scheffler clinched the FedEx Cup after defeating Collin Morikawa by a four-shot margin at the Tour Championship. This was his first FedEx Cup win, having entered the playoffs as the leader for the third straight year.
This year's FedEx Cup also saw the redemption of several players who had abysmal seasons last year but found their groove this time and finished strong in the playoffs.
In this article, we will look at five players who made massive improvements in this year's standings.
Five players who made massive improvements from the 2023 FedEx Cup
1) Billy Horschel
Billy Horschel had an underwhelming 2022–23 season, finishing 90th after securing just three top-ten finishes. He started this season well but still missed the Masters Tournament for the first time in eight years.
However, things changed for Horschel as he went on to win the Corales Puntacana Championship, ending a two-year title drought. He also made six other top-ten finishes, including a runner-up finish at The Open Championship. Unlike last year, he made it to the playoffs this time, finishing 23rd in the standings.
2) Shane Lowry
Similar to Horschel, Shane Lowry entered this season after finishing 78th in the 2022–23 season. This time, he made a significant leap, finishing 9th in the standings.
Compared to just one top-ten finish last year, Lowry recorded seven top-ten finishes this season and also won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside Rory McIlroy.
3) Adam Scott
Adam Scott was another veteran going through a lean phase. He finished 72nd in last year’s standings but made a steady start this season. However, he found his rhythm later in the season. He fired four top-ten finishes in his last five starts and finished T4 in the FedEx Cup standings.
4) Justin Thomas
Last year, Justin Thomas failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in his career, finishing 71st in the standings. Besides, this was the first season where he went winless.
Although Thomas didn’t secure a title this season either, he showed significant improvement. He made five top-ten finishes and placed T14 in the FedEx Cup.
5) Taylor Pendrith
Last year, Taylor Pendrith finished 114th in the standings. This time, he made a remarkable leap of 100 spots after a memorable season.
The 33-year-old Canadian golfer recorded six top-ten finishes, including a win at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson.
