5 most interesting storylines from the 2024 FedExCup Fall schedule ft. Joel Dahmen’s PGA Tour bubble journey
The 2024 FedExCup Fall concluded on Sunday, November 24, with Maverick McNealy claiming the RSM Classic. This solidified the final roster of 125 players for the new PGA Tour season. It also marked the end of the season for several golfers who were either fighting to retain their cards or hoping to earn one.
The 2024 season was full of drama, culminating in a thrilling Fall stretch. In this article, we’ll dive into five key storylines from the 2024 FedExCup Fall schedule.
5 most interesting storylines from the 2024 FedExCup Fall
1) Joel Dahmen's narrow escape
When Joel Dahmen entered the RSM Classic, he was 124th in the FedExCup Fall standings with just one event to go. Another bad week, and he would have had to return to Q-School. By the end of the third round, a score of 70 had dropped him to 128th in the projected rankings.
In the final round of the season, Dahmen went really low, signing for a bogey-free 64 and finishing 124th in the standings to secure his card for the next season.
2) Four first time winners
With top golfers not competing, the FedExCup Fall season provided an opportunity for other names to claim titles. As a result, the eight events of the Fall season witnessed four first-time winners.
Kevin Yu won the Sanderson Farms Championship, while Matt McCarty claimed the Black Desert Championship. Rafael Campos triumphed at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship a couple of weeks ago, and Maverick McNealy secured his first win at the RSM Classic in Georgia.
3) Luke Clanton's impressive show continues
There's no doubt that Luke Clanton emerged as the most impressive talent this year. He played in eight events as an amateur and registered four top-10 finishes.
Clanton finished as the runner-up at the John Deere Classic. He then ended the Fall season with another runner-up finish last week.
4) Rafael Campos seals an emotional win at Butterfield Bermuda Championship
Rafael Campos entered the Butterfield Bermuda Championship after missing 13 cuts in his last 14 starts. He arrived in Bermuda on Thursday, just 90 minutes before the tee time of the opening round. However, despite no preparation, he went on to claim his maiden PGA Tour title.
The 36-year-old Puerto Rican golfer was 147th in FedExCup Fall standings but jumped to 82nd after his win.
5) Patton Kizzire ends his six-year title drought
Before the 2024 Procore Championship, Patton Kizzire had gone six straight seasons without a title. His last win was at the 2018 Sony Open in Hawaii.
However, Kizzire played incredible golf, shooting 66-65-67-70 to win his third PGA Tour title by five strokes.
