5 notable LIV Golfers who made the cut at the 2024 Open Championship ft. Brooks Koepka
The 2024 Open Championship, currently underway at the Royal Troon Golf Course, heads into its moving day with the top 70 golfers, including ties, vying for the Claret Jug after two rounds.
A total of 18 LIV Golfers qualified for the 2024 Open Championship, out of which several are still in contention after two days of play. While the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and David Puig crashed out, here are 5 well-known LIV Golfers that did not.
5 notable LIV Golf players who made the cut at the 2024 Open Championship
1. Dean Burmester
Dean Burmester has kept himself in contention at the Open Championship over the last two days, after shooting rounds of 71-69. With an overall score of -2, Burmester currently sits in joint fourth place alongside Billy Horschel and Scottie Scheffler.
Dean Burmester turned pro in 2010 and has since played on the PGA Tour, European Tour and LIV Golf Series. He is, however, still in search of his first major victory.
2. Joaquin Niemann
Joaquin Niemann carded rounds of 71-71 to sit at par after day 2 of the Open. During the second round of the tournament, Niemann found himself in quite a bit of trouble. He shot an 8 on the par-3 8th hole and almost lost out on his spot in the cut field.
However, Niemann fought back, and the four birdies he made on his back nine helped him stay at par. He currently sits in T11.
3. Jon Rahm
Jon Rahm finds himself tied for 13th place alongside two other LIV Golfers. After a challenging weekend at Royal Troon, he sits at +1 with rounds of 73-70.
Rahm has had a mediocre season so far, having failed to pick up a win on the LIV Golf circuit. However, his sights remain set on adding another major title to his collection, his last being the 2023 Masters victory.
4. Dustin Johnson
Dustin Johnson is one over par after the first two rounds of the Open. After shooting a 74 on Day 1, Johnson made a comeback to shoot a 69 on Day 2. Johnson shot an eagle on the 16th hole during the second round to finish two under par for the day.
He is currently tied for 13th place. Johnson most recently won the Masters in 2020, which was his second major win. He will be looking to pick up a third win this weekend.
5. Brooks Koepka
Brooks Koepka is tied alongside Dustin Johnson after carding an overall score of +1. He shot 70 during day 1 of the Open Championship and followed it up with 73 during the second round.
Koepka has had only one win this year on the LIV Golf Series, in Singapore. Earlier this year, he failed to defend his title at the PGA Championship. However, he will be determined to win the sixth major of his career this weekend.
