"A once in a lifetime experience" - Wyndham Clark shares heartfelt note after his controversial Olympics outing
A few weeks ago, Wyndham Clark received backlash from golf fans for being picked in the Olympics Golf US team along with Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa. Each country can send a maximum of four golfers to the Olympics and with Clark’s inclusion, the team reached saturation.
As a result, Bryson DeChambeau who was behind Clark in the world rankings, couldn't make it to Paris. The incident followed fans making critical comments on Wyndham Clark's selection and calling him unworthy of the opportunity. But days after that, the American landed at T14 on the Olympics leaderboard. Afterwards, he posted a heartfelt note regarding his experience last week.
On Instagram, Clark shared five pictures of himself at the Olympic venue, and with that, he thanked the authorities for giving him such a huge opportunity to represent the USA. He also congratulated Scottie Scheffler for achieving the gold and, lastly, acknowledged the hospitality in Paris.
“A once in a lifetime experience! I always feel incredibly honored any chance I get to represent the Greatest Country in the World 🇺🇸 Congrats to @scottie.scheffler for bringing home the 🥇 for @teamusa I was hoping to join him on the podium but fell a little bit short. Still very proud of the way I battled back after a rough start on Thursday. I will always keep fighting hard especially when fighting for the USA,” Wyndham Clark wrote.
He continued:
“Lastly, thank you to the beautiful city of Paris for the generous hospitality and being the backdrop behind so many amazing memories that I will cherish forever. The fans were amazing all week and created a truly remarkable atmosphere that I was lucky to be a part of. Now, time to shift gears for one final Playoff Push. See you all in Memphis!”
Wyndham Clark will next appear at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which takes place in Memphis. The event will have a purse of $20 million and begins on August 15.
