“Absolute legend” – Cameron Smith lauds ultramarathon runner for running 1000 miles straight to raise $2.6 million

Cameron Smith recently praised ultramarathon runner Nedd Brockmann for running 1,000 miles to raise $2.6 million for homeless Australians.

Smith, a former Open Championship winner, now plays on the LIV Golf circuit. Nedd Brockmann is an athlete who is popular on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

On Tuesday, October 15, Brockmann shared a video of his journey completing the epic marathon.

"1000 miles around the track, 12 days 13 hours 16 minutes and 45 seconds," he wrote on Instagram. "Average 128 kilometres a day. 2.6 million raised for Aussies experiencing homelessness and counting. Please enjoy the video while I enjoy putting my feet up. CONQUER"

Brockmann's effort was just 30 minutes short of Greek ultrarunner Yiannis Kouros, who set the world record in 1988 by completing a 1,000-mile marathon in just under 10 and a half days.

Brockmann's epic run was live-streamed on TikTok under the title Nedd Brockmann’s Uncomfortable Challenge. This effort was viewed more than 4.7 million times across 50 countries. Nearly 2,000 people were present at Sydney Olympic Park to witness the final night of the run.

After completing the race, Brockmann revealed that he had suffered a setback in August when he injured his left shin. Rain on the second day of the race also damaged his feet.

"From then, just trying to get up in the morning, ripped so bad – my toes looked like King Charles' fingers," he said as per the Guardian.

This is not the first time Brockmann has done something like this for charity. In 2020, he ran 50 marathons in 50 days and raised over $100,000 for the Red Cross. Two years later, he did a 46-day run of 4,000km across Australia to raise $1.85m for We Are Mobilise. We Are Mobilise is an outreach program to support the homeless people of Australia.

What's next for Cameron Smith?

While several LIV Golfers are playing on the DP World Tour and the Asian Tour, Cameron Smith is currently enjoying a break. However, he will return to action soon for the Australian swing.

Smith has confirmed his participation in the Australian PGA Championship and Queensland PGA Championship. He is also expected to play at the ISPS Handa Australian Open. The Aussie star has won the Australian PGA Championship three times and finished runner-up in the other two events.

Cameron Smith had a fruitful season on LIV Golf, where he won the Team Championship in Dallas. However, he couldn’t add any individual title to his cabinet. He made a T6 finish at the Masters Tournament but didn’t have any other top-ten finishes in the major championships this year.
