"Always been a difficult test"- Bryson DeChambeau worried about 'diabolical' Open Championship course
Bryson DeChambeau is teeing it up at the 2024 Open Championship with the hopes of winning another major this year. He won the 2024 US Open after an impressive performance, esepcially on the final day.
However, winning at the Open Championship is going to be no easy task as golfers get ready to tackle the Royal Troon Golf Course. The course has the longest and the shortest holes on the PGA Tour. DeChambeau is worried about conquering the course though he has confidence in his abilities.
Speaking about the course ahead of the 2024 Open Championship, the US Open winner said (via NBC):
"It’s always been a difficult test for me. It’s going to be about controlling that height through just the length of the backstroke for me this week. It’s going to be tough. It’s always tough. It’s very diabolical, and just trying to keep it low underneath the wind is key for me this week.”
DeChambeau is the only golfer who has finished in the top 10 at all the major championships so far this year. Going into the final major, he will hope to maintain his streak this weekend:
“[I am] Very confident, obviously, and it all depends if I’m striking it well. If I can play the golf that I have been, I think I’ll give myself a great chance.”
DeChambeau will be teeing off alongside the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, who are among the favorites to win the event.
Bryson DeChambeau talked to Rory McIlroy for the first time since the US Open, looks forward to a 'great battle' once again
Bryson DeChambeau beat Rory McIlroy by one stroke at the 2024 US Open. For the Northern Irish golfer, it was a heartbreaking loss. He walked away from the course grounds without congratulating DeChambeau or giving an interview.
However, all is well between the two golfers now, as Bryson DeChambeau said that he had spoken to McIlroy earlier. DeChambeau explained via Golf Monthly:
"I said hello to him yesterday, and we talked. He said, 'Congrats.' So everything's great there. He's a fierce competitor. I know he's going to give the fans, give everybody as much as he can this week. I'm going to be doing the same. We're going to be competing. Hopefully it will be another good battle."
McIlroy is one of the favorites to win this weekend, with odds of +750 (via CBS). Scottie Scheffler will enter the tournament with odds of +450, making him the odds-on favorite for the Open. DeChambeau has odds of +1400, along with Ludvig Aberg and Collin Morikawa, who share the same odds. Other highly ranked LIV Golfers at the Open will be Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm.
