Australian hopes at the 2023 Masters increase as Jason Day and Min Woo Lee rise in the latest OWGR update

Min Woo Lee surged into the top 50 securing his berth for the upcoming Masters. Lee finished in a tie for 14th place in The Players Championship. He jumped from World No. 50 to No. 45 in the latest Official World Golf Ranking update. The cut line for the Masters is World No. 50.

Consistent performances by Jason Day and recent exploits by Lee have made sure that this won't be the lowest Aussie contingent in recent years.

The 24-year-old has been consistent over the last year as he has missed only two cuts and ended up in the top 10 of four of the last eight starts. His best performance came at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, where he finished as the runner-up.

After failing to make the cut at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Lee put on a good showing at the 2023 Players Championship. At one point, he was leading on Sunday morning until Scheffler took the game away completely. He finished T-6 at TPC Sawgrass.

Lee is confident that he will cross the final hurdle soon:

“I’ve been in final groups quite a lot lately, and to be on the PGA Tour in one of the biggest PGA Tour tournaments, it’s awesome," said Lee. “If I just keep putting myself in those positions, hopefully I can get a Sunday done.”

Day is now the highest-ranked Australian golfer in the world as he has crossed Scott by making a seven-spot leap after a T-19 finish at TPC Sawgrass. He ranks No. 36 at the moment.

Day had slipped to as low as 175 in 2022. However, since then, he has moved to 78 spots in his last six tournaments. He will return to the Major tournament after missing all three majors in 2022.

Five players from Australia will most likely be featuring at the upcoming Masters. Apart from Adam Scott, Jason Day, and Lee, amateur Harrison Crowe will also compete at the Augusta National.

Cameron Smith, who defected to the Saudi-backed league last year, will also play at the Masters as the tournament hasn't made any restrictions on LIV golfers.

Lucas Herbert dropped to 55 after his horrible outing at the The Players Championship. If he does well in his next event, he might join the five.
