Barstool Sports announce TGL-like Simulator Golf League featuring golf show hosts and influencers
While the first season of TGL is still a couple of months away, popular sports website Barstool Sports has announced a similar league named Simulator Golf League. The league will feature several popular influencers and Barstool Sports' golf show hosts.
A couple of years ago, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy announced a new tech-infused league called TGL. The league is set to begin its inaugural season on January 7 next year. However, ahead of their season, they already have a rival launched by David Portnoy-owned Barstool Sports.
On Thursday, November 7, Barstool Sports released the teaser of the Simulator Golf League. The teaser features several popular influencers and golf show hosts such as Chaps, PFT, Hank Lockwood, Eddie, Chief, MMM, Smoke, and Dave Williams, aka White Sox Dave.
The Simulator Golf League will feature four teams, with two players on each team. Teams will be set based on rankings, with the number one player paired with the bottom-ranked player, the second seed paired with the seventh, and so on.
Each team will play three matches, resulting in a total of six round-robin matches. Each match will be played in a two-versus-two format across nine holes in an alternate-shot format. The playoffs will feature two semifinal matches and a final match, with playoff seeds determined based on the points table.
The first match of the Simulator Golf League will be streamed live next week, and the official Barstool Sports social media handles will soon share further details.
Who is playing in the TGL?
The teams for the TGL are all locked in. Boston Common Golf, New York Golf Club, Los Angeles Golf Club, The Bay Golf Club, Atlanta Drive Golf Club, and Jupiter Links Golf Club are the six teams for the first season of the Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's much-anticipated golf league.
Woods will be part of The Jupiter Links Golf Club alongside Tom Kim, Max Homa, and Kevin Kisner. As for Rory McIlroy, he will represent The Boston Common Golf alongside Keegan Bradley, Hideki Matsuyama, and Adam Scott.
The New York Golf Club consists of Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, and Cameron Young. The Los Angeles Golf Club includes Sahith Theegala, Tommy Fleetwood, Collin Morikawa, and Justin Rose.
The Bay Golf Club features Min Woo Lee, Wyndham Clark, Ludvig Aberg, and Shane Lowry. Finally, the Atlanta Drive Golf Club team comprises Lucas Glover, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, and Billy Horschel.
