Billy Horschel feeling 'confident' to take on 3M Open despite narrow Open Championship loss- "I can get a second win"
Billy Horschel is confident in his game as he gears up to compete at the upcoming 3M Open this week. The American golfer narrowly missed out on winning The Open Championship last week. He was in the lead after the third round of the Major but struggled in the final round, finishing in a tie for second place.
Despite not winning, Horschel is hopeful of earning a title this week. Earlier this year, he won the Corales Puntacana Championship and now aims to secure his second PGA Tour event of the season.
Ahead of the 3M Open, Billy Horschel spoke about his game during a press conference, expressing confidence. He traveled from Scotland to Minneapolis for the PGA Tour event. When asked if he considered withdrawing from the competition after such a long journey, he firmly declined, stating that once he commits to something, he tries to hold to that commitment.
"When I commit to something, I try to hold to that commitment unless crazy circumstances arise. But when you're playing well, you want to continue to play well. And I'm coming halfway around the world, completing six different time zones, different grasses, and everything. But confidence-wise, I want to continue to build on that confidence," Horschel said (via Golf Channel's YouTube Channel at 0:48)
"I want to continue to put myself back in that chance of winning, and that's why I'm here. I feel like I can play well this week I feel like I got a chance to win and the goal is to win. So I can move higher up in the FedEx Cup. I can get a second win on the PGA tour this year. So I'm excited to be here. And I hope I always hold myself to my commitments," he added.
Horschel also discussed his rise in the FedEx Cup standings. After his impressive performance at The Open Championship last week, he made a significant jump and currently sits at number 26. Notably, only the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings will advance to the season-ending playoffs, with only the top 30 competing in the Tour Championship.
