Brooks Koepka wishes Florida State Men’s Golf ahead of NCAA Golf championship
Brooks Koepka is one of the most illustrious results of the Florida State University men's golf program. Like most professional athletes, Koepka remains closely tied to the program that shaped him and gave him the foundation to be the star he is today.
This Tuesday, May 28, the Florida State University Seminoles qualified for the NCAA Match Play Championship for the first time in their history. Among the first to congratulate the team was Koepka, who did so via a comment on Instagram.
The Seminoles defeated North Carolina in the quarterfinals, 3 & 1, and Georgia Tech in the Semifinals, 3 & 2, at the Omni La Costa North Course in Carlsbad, California. Their opponent in the NCAA Match Play Championship will be Auburn University, and the event will be played this Wednesday, May 29, at the same venue in Carlsbad, California.
The Seminoles were led by Senior Frederik Kjettrup, Freshman Tyler Weaver and Sophomore Luke Clanton. The latter was particularly impressive, defeating the top ranked amateur golfer in the world, Christo Lamprecht.
This is the first time Florida State University has reached the final of the NCAA Match Play Championship in men's golf. Their previous best result had been to reach the semifinal stage twice, the first time in 2010 (with Brooks Koepka on the roster) and the second time in 2023.
A look into Brooks Koepka's career at Florida State University
Brooks Koepka's initial intention was to go straight from high school to professional golf. It was his father, Robert, who convinced him to attend college.
At this point, Koepka was interested in the University of Florida. However, according to the player himself (via Business Insidera India) the Gators had zero interest in him, so he turned his attention to Florida State University.
Koepka played with the Seminoles between 2008 and 2012. There he reached 15 Top 10s in 35 tournaments and helped the team reach the semifinals of the NCAA Match Play Championship in 2010.
During his time at Florida State University Koepka achieved numerous accolades. Most notably, he was an All-American selection in three of his four seasons.
Koepka is one of four Major champions to come out of the university and has won the most titles at that level (5). The other three former Seminoles major champions are Hubert Green (2), Jeff Sluman (1) and Paul Azinger (1).
