Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka share hilarious "underdog" joke over matchup against Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy

Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka will face Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy in an exhibition match in December this year. The event, dubbed 'The Showdown', is a highly anticipated one.

As fans in the golf world wait for the event, DeChambeau and Koepka have taken the opportunity to joke about it. The most recent example was a post on X, where the former shared a picture of the world rankings and called himself and Koepka the "underdogs." He wrote:

"Hmm I guess we’re the underdogs @BKoepka 😂"

Koepka, his colleague on LIV Golf, responded by saying,

"Always been 😎"

Scottie Scheffler is the current World No. 1, a position he has held for 75 consecutive weeks, since May 2023. Rory McIlroy is No. 3 and has spent most of the year in second place. Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka are ranked 9th and 65th, respectively.

Notably, DeChambeau and Koepka's rankings are based almost entirely on their performances in major championships. Both play primarily on the LIV Golf circuit where performances are not awarded with OWGR ranking points.

DeChambeau won the second Major of his career in 2024 at the U.S. Open. He has yet to win an individual LIV Golf event. Brooks Koepka won twice during the league's season but couldn't add a major championship to the five he already has under his belt.

Brooks Koepka to Bryson DeChambeau: "Did we just become best friends?"

Days earlier, Bryson DeChambeau officially confirmed his participation in The Showdown on his X account. Brooks Koepka responded with a famous quote from the movie "Step Brothers":

"Did we just become best friends?"

'Step Brothers' is based on two men who are forced to live as brothers in adulthood. The five-time major champion referred it to his past conflicts with DeChambeau.

DeChambeau and Koepka's conflicts have been well documented by golf media, with frequent back-and-forth on social media and television. It all started in 2019 when Koepka publicly complained about DeChambeau's slow play at the Dubai Desert Classic.

From that moment on, the tension between the two escalated into open hostility, with criticism and mockery from both sides. It got to the point where Koepka asserted that he and DeChambeau would not congratulate each other on a possible victory in the 2021 Ryder Cup.

According to ESPN, U.S. captain Steve Stricker spoke with both stars and convinced them to put aside their differences for the good of the team. Stricker's intervention paid off when Koepka and DeChambeau congratulated each other after the American's win. The two then shared a hug at the behest of teammate Justin Thomas.

The DeChambeau-Koepka feud has been out of the golf media headlines ever since. It will be interesting to see how they complement each other as they team up to face their PGA Tour colleagues.
