Bryson DeChambeau details his hip issue ahead of US Open 2024 final round - “It was tougher to get through on a couple of shots”
Bryson DeChambeau opened up about his hip issues ahead of the final round of the 2024 US Open. The American golfer took the lead at the ongoing Major following its third round on Saturday.
Heading into the final round with a lead of three strokes, DeChambeau is in contention to win the major for the second time in his career, with his first victory coming in 2020. He is in a strong position to clinch the trophy on Sunday.
However, he has been struggling with hip issues that made it "tough" for him to take "a couple of shots" at the ongoing Major. During a post-round press conference, DeChambeau discussed his health issues.
"It was tougher to get through on a couple of shots and it's okay. I've had it for a long time now. Just something that popped up. I've been playing a lot of good golf lately and working on my house, trying to get my house finished. So I haven't really had time to rest like I want to," said DeChambeau. (2:47)
He also talked about his tight-knit schedule, making it difficult for the former US Open winner to get enough "rest." Bryson DeChambeau added:
"The two weeks I had off after PGA. I was really grinding and focusing on some stuff there. So I wasn't really able to rest, and I've just been pushing myself a little bit, pushing the horse a bit. And consequently, that's going to happen. But luckily, I've got a great team around me to help fix some stuff right over turfs here and does a bunch of MAT on me, and he's going to fix me right up."
Even after dealing with hip issues, Bryson DeChambeau surged to the top of the leaderboard and secured a fabulous three-stroke lead heading into the finale of the 2024 US Open. After Saturday's round, he finished with a score of 7-under-par, ahead of Matthieu Pavon, Patrick Cantlay, and Rory McIlroy, all three tied for second place with 5-under.
Considering DeChambeau's resounding form in 2024, particularly in Majors, he has a good chance to win on Sunday. At last month's PGA Championship, he finished runner-up and was tied for sixth place at the Masters in April.
Bryson DeChambeau's innovative approach to balance his tee balls
Bryson DeChambeau got scientific to balance out his tee shots on the golf course. During the post-round conference of the 2024 US Open, the LIV golfer revealed that he uses salt to balance the balls.
Speaking about the golf balls, DeChambeau said:
"I put my golf balls in Epsom salt. I'm lucky enough that Connor, my manager, does that now. I don't have to do it. But essentially, we float golf balls in a solution to make sure that the golf ball is not out of balance."
The technique has been helpful for him, as evidenced by his recent performance. Not only has he been impressive in Majors, but DeChambeau has also been playing well on the Saudi circuit. In the eight tournaments he played on LIV Golf in 2024, DeChambeau secured a spot in the top 10 four times.
His best performance on the circuit was at the Jeddah event, where he finished in fourth place, while his best of the year was at the PGA Championship, where he was the runner-up.
Hopes are high for him as he gears up to enter the final round of the 2024 US Open. Bryson DeChambeau will tee off for the final round with Matthieu Pavon to start his game at 2:21 p.m. ET.
