Bryson DeChambeau gets honest on Xander Schauffele after 2 Major wins: “If I could be him"

Bryson DeChambeau recently discussed Xander Schauffele’s achievement of winning two Major titles in a year. Schauffele won the 2024 PGA Championship in May and The Open Championship last week.

DeChambeau, who won the US Open this year but struggled at The Open Championship and missed the cut, is now preparing for the upcoming LIV Golf UK, starting Friday, July 26.

In a pre-tournament press conference, DeChambeau expressed admiration for Schauffele’s accomplishments, acknowledging that winning two Majors in a single year is "not easy." He also reflected on his desire to further compete alongside Schauffele in Majors.

DeChambeau told media including Sportskeeda:

"Playing golf with (Xander Schauffelle)... he has always been a superstar. I looked at him and like, 'Man, if I could be him.' That's really good. He is gonna be great for a long time and seeing his career develop and become better over the course of time is awesome."
"To him, winning two this year is a groundbreaking year. I certainly can't wait to compete against him in the Majors. Looking forward, and he is a great competitor but has just inspired oneself to work a little bit harder. He is getting two in a year. That is not easy," he added.

As LIV golfers are banned from the PGA Tour, fans can only see him and Schauffele play together in Major tournaments.

At The Open Championship 2024, DeChambeau shot rounds of 76 and 75, finishing with a +9 score and missing the cut. It was his worst performance in the Majors this season. He had previously tied for sixth at the Masters, finished as the runner-up at the PGA Championship and won the US Open.

In contrast, Schauffele had a strong performance at The Open, carding rounds of 69, 72, 69 and 65 to secure the victory at Royal Troon.

Bryson DeChambeau will be playing this week; Xander Schauffele, having won last week’s event, will miss the PGA Tour’s 3M Open, scheduled to start on Thursday, July 25.

When will Bryson DeChambeau tee off for the 2024 LIV Golf UK?

The first round of the 2024 LIV Golf UK is scheduled to start on Friday, July 26 at JCB Golf & Country Club in Staffordshire, England. As the tournament will have a shotgun start, all players will tee off for the first round at 2:15 p.m. local time from different holes.

Bryson DeChambeau will begin his round on the first hole alongside Anirban Lahiri and Paul Casey. He is one of the favorites to win this week. The tournament will run for three days, concluding on Sunday, July 28.

Bryson DeChambeau has played in ten LIV Golf events this season and is currently ninth on the season standings. He finished third at the Nashville event and is still seeking his first win on the circuit in 2024. Last season, he won two LIV Golf events.
