Bryson DeChambeau receives crucial LIV Golf favor as team skips quarterfinals

The LIV Golf team playoffs is set, but Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers GC is not on the schedule right now. There are five matchups with two teams each for the first quarterfinal match, and the Crushers do not have a first-round matchup. This is because DeChambeau's squad was gifted a bye. They were among two teams to have already secured a bye heading into last week's Chicago tournament.

This means that Crushers are among three teams who won't have to play the first round. Given that it's a playoff tournament predicated on advancing, this is supremely advantageous. They get to rest and wait while other teams battle it out for the chance to play them or the other two teams.

The other two teams are Ripper and Legion XIII. Legion XIII had already wrapped up a bye week heading into LIV Chicago, and Ripper earned one by their play. Cameron Smith's all-Australian unit will be off alongside DeChambeau's and Rahm's squad.

DeChambeau's squad is made up of the 2024 US Open winner, Paul Casey, Charles Howell III, and Anirban Lahiri. Those golfers, among the others on Rahm and Smith's teams, will be well-rested when they face whichever of the teams proceed into the next round.

The first day of the team championship in Dallas is Friday, September 20. There will be three days of competition until one team is crowned the 2024 league winner.

Bryson DeChambeau opens up on LIV Golf team championship venue

Bryson DeChambeau and his team may have one less round of golf to play in the LIV Golf team event than most other clubs, but he's looking forward to playing at Bolingbrook, the chosen venue this year.

DeChambeau said that that has always been a "great" community for golf, saying that the courses are "fantastic" and that it's close to a Major tournament course. He said he had a few shots that were very similar to how they played at the US Open, a tournament he won.

Via Mirror, DeChambeau said:

"The greens that firm with the rough all around it, it was pretty difficult. I'd love to see us come back here and have some more of this type of golf because I truly do love it. I feel like our games are well-suited for a place like this, and hopefully, we'll get another shot."

Paul Casey echoed that sentiment, saying that the course changed frequently even throughout a single day. He added:

"Sometimes, as Baan said, there are a lot of crosswinds and some difficult tee shots. Yes, there's some big fairways, but it seems like there's always trouble if you've not got control of the golf ball."

The Crushers will try to put their knowledge of the course to good use and come out with a team victory this weekend.
