Bryson DeChambeau showcases his unwavering support for Team USA, lauds PGA Tour rival for Olympics win

Scottie Scheffler won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday. The World No.1 beat Great Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama to clinch the top medal at Le Golf National. Following the win, Bryson DeChambeau came out to laud the reigning Masters champion’s achievement.

DeChambeau, who narrowly missed a chance to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics, showcased his unwavering support for Team USA. The LIV Golfer lauded his PGA Tour rival Scottie Scheffler for his gold medal win and claimed that the 27-year-old could never be ‘counted out.’ He congratulated the ace golfer despite their past differences due to the ongoing PGA-LIV feud.

Bryson DeChambeau wrote on X:

“What a final round from Scottie, you can never count the man out. Congratulations on the gold, way to represent Team USA!”

With the tweet, DeChambeau became one of the firsts from LIV Golf to congratulate Scheffler on his Olympic achievement. Notably, this comes just days after the reigning US Open champion vowed to ‘always root for Team USA’s victory’ despite the situation.

He’d tweeted ahead of the Olympics golf competition in Paris:

“Shoutout to the guys in Paris this week. Of course, I would love to be out there competing with them, but no matter the situation, I'll always be rooting for a Team USA victory.”

It is pertinent to note that Bryson DeChambeau only narrowly missed out on the US Olympic golf team. Despite a US Open win and two top-10 finishes, the LIV Golfer finished fifth on the US player roster and failed to join the squad.

Notably, the decision to pick Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa ahead of Bryson led to Team USA facing some backlash at the competition.

Scottie Scheffler wins gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Scottie Scheffler shocked many by coming from behind to clinch the Olympic gold medal on Sunday. The World No. 1 golfer stunned in the Olympics final round as he came from four shots behind to beat Day 3 leaders Xander Schauffele and Jon Rahm at Le Golf National. He scored six birdies on the back nine and shot a nine-under 62.

He took the gold medal home for the US beating Great Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood, who settled for silver. Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama earned the bronze. Following the win, Scheffler got emotional and noted that the gold medal ranks ‘high’ among his career accomplishments, including two Masters wins.

Scottie Scheffler said in his post-win press conference, as quoted by Golf.com:

“It’s pretty high up there. Anytime you’re able to represent your country is pretty special. This was a fun week and it was great representing the USA, and I’m proud to be going home with a medal.”

Scheffler, who’d won six events on the PGA Tour already this year, including the Augusta Masters, was the favorite to win the Olympics gold in Paris. The early odds took a hit when players like Schauffele and Spain’s Jon Rahm began outperforming him. However, the in-form golfer managed to pull it back and emerge victorious despite the tough competition.
