Bryson DeChambeau urges PGAT and LIV Golf to 'go figure it out' following US Open win
Bryson DeChambeau is on top of the golf world after his US Open victory, and he had a message for the powers that be. The PGA Tour x PIF merger is still being worked out and has support from both sides, but there is no timeline for an actual resolution.
DeChambeau believes that should change as he said after his Major win (via Morning Star Online):
“If I’m to be quite frank, I hope we can figure things out quickly. I hope this can bridge the gap between a divided game."
DeChambeau is on one side of that divide with LIV Golf. That side has less popularity, something he's worked hard to change. With his YouTube channel and his excellent Major performances in 2024, he's drawing more eyes to himself and his tour.
He continued:
“All I want to do is entertain and do my best for the game of golf, execute and provide some awesome entertainment for the fans. From at least what I can tell, that’s what the fans want, and they deserve that."
DeChambeau believes that excuses can be let go. What happened in the past or what decision anyone made is done and dusted, so he wants everyone to move on.
“Let bygones be bygones and go figure it out. Let’s figure out this amazing game that creates so much positivity [and get it] back to where it belongs,” he added.
The positivity he is referencing has been the result of LIV Golf's few excursions with PGA Tour players: the Major tournaments. DeChambeau has shown up against heightened competition, placing T6 at the Masters Tournament, second at the PGA Championship (shooting -20 as well), and winning the US Open.
Bryson DeChambeau opens up on recent rise in fan popularity
Thanks to his efforts to modernize golf and bring it to new audiences, Bryson DeChambeau has been heralded as the next big personality in golf. He's become the player everyone watches despite his status on LIV Golf.
Following his win at the 2024 US Open, DeChambeau spoke on his recent rise in popularity and said (via CBS Sports):
"I've realized that there's a lot more to life than just golf. Treating others, yourself first and foremost, respecting yourself, is super important to being able to treat others with respect as well. That's one of the big things that I've learned. I'm not perfect; I'm human. Everyone's human."
He recalled low moments, saying that they helped establish his new frame of mind and who he is now. One of the low moments Bryson DeChambeau mentioned was after the Masters in 2022 when he broke his hand and was unsure what the future held for him. He eventually turned a corner in 2023 and has seemingly rounded into a beloved player on and off the course in 2024.
