Caddie Kip Henley raises potential violation on Bryson DeChambeau’s putter - “Not being a d**k or hate him at all but it is a rule”
Caddie Kip Henley said recently that Bryson DeChambeau's putter at the U.S. Open was potentially violating the Rules of Golf. He claimed that DeChambeau's putter appeared more vertical and not slightly tilted.
Kip Henley is a veteran caddie on the tour and also caddied for the late Grayson Murray during the Korn Ferry Tour last season. He was involved in Murray's two wins that season, which helped Murray earn his PGA Tour card.
On Saturday, June 15, DeChambeau fired a 3-under 67 in the third round of the U.S. Open to aggregate at 7-under and take a three-shot lead. However, Henley stirred controversy on social media by raising questions about the golfer's putter.
"If I’m a player around the lead in the US Open I would ask the USGA to check the specs on this putter," he wrote on X. "The shaft has to lean away from head at least 10 degrees. It sure looks vertical. Not being a d**k or hate him at all but it is a rule."
Speaking of stats, DeChambeau has been outstanding in putting. He is second in putting this week; however, he led the field on Saturday. He has been using the SIK Pro C-Series Armlock putter for a long time with a tilt of 12 degrees, contrary to Henley's claim.
Bryson DeChambeau takes strong lead at the US Open after third round
Bryson DeChambeau fired a low 67 on Saturday to take a three-stroke lead over Patrick Cantlay, Rory McIlroy, and Matthieu Pavon with just 18 holes to go at the US Open 2024.
Bryson DeChambeau entered the third day at Pinehurst alongside 36-hole leader Ludvig Aberg. He began with a bogey on the fourth hole but recovered well with five birdies on the next 10 holes. He had a bit of a slump on the 16th, where he made a double bogey, but the birdie on the next hole made sure the loss wasn't big.
Aberg had an off day at the office as he carded 3-over 73 and slipped to T5. He was on even par for the round until the 13th hole, where he made a triple bogey. After birdieing the 14th, he made another bogey on the next hole. He is now five shots behind the lead. He is joined by Hideki Matsuyama, who carded an even-par 70.
Both Pavon and McIlroy shot 1-under 69 to move to T2 after the third round of the US Open. Patrick Cantlay remained unmoved at 4-under after shooting an even-par.
