Cam Smith takes on LIV Golf rival in a team 'two club challenge,' details unique rules and prize for the contest

Cam Smith takes on the rival team in a unique '2-club challenge' for an exclusive LIV Golf head-to-head match. The Saudi Circuit is nearing the conclusion of its third season, with only two more events to go. LIV golfers last competed at the Greenbrier event and have since been on a break. Although they do not have an official event this week, the players have taken up a unique challenge.

Ripper GC captain Cam Smith shared the details of a unique 2-club challenge event against the rival team, Stinger GC. It will be a four-hole match between the four players of both teams.

The players will take alternate shots, but the game has a rule: they are only allowed to play with two clubs. Adding to the fun, players' clubs are being decided by a 'spin the wheel' on their mobile phones. All eight players from both teams spun the wheel, and whatever club the marker pointed to, that's the one they have to play with.

Here are the clubs players will be using in the unique contest:

Stinger :

  • Dean Burmester- Lob wedge / 2 iron
  • Louis Oosthuizen - 7 wood / Gap wedge
  • Branden Grace- 5 iron / 8 iron
  • Charl Schwartzel- 3 wood / 4 iron

Ripper:

  • Cam Smith- 5 wood / 5 iron
  • Marc Leishman - 7 wood / 7 iron
  • Matt Jones- 8 iron / pitching wedge
  • Lucas Herbert- 3 wood / 6 iron

But what will the winners get from the contest? Sadly, there is no special prize money, but the winning team earns a qualification for a pro-am event. In a video shared by Stinger GC on X, towards the end, the team captain Louis Oosthuizen shared the details of the prize.

"The winning team is heading tomorrow for the pro-am. So it should be fun," he said.

Meanwhile, the LIV golfers will officially compete at the Chicago event next week.

A quick recap of Cam Smith's 2024 season

The third season of LIV Golf has been a mix of some good performances and some struggles for Cam Smith. He has recorded some solid finishes and came close to winning several times this season in the breakaway series, but hasn't been successful.

He started the season by finishing tied for eighth place in the season-opening Mayakoba event. However, he recorded a finish outside the top 10 in the next two tournaments.

Smith finished tied for the top position after three rounds at the LIV Golf Hong Kong event but lost in the playoff, finishing in second place. He has been the runner-up in three tournaments this season, narrowly missing out on the titles.

However, with his impressive finishes, Cam Smith secured the sixth spot in the season standings. He will next tee off at the LIV Golf Chicago event from 13 to 15 September in Bolingbrook Golf Club.
