Cameron Young WDs from WWT Championship

Cameron Young announced on Wednesday (Nov. 6) that he will not be playing in the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship. The event will be played from November 7-10 at El Cardonal in Diamante, Mexico.

The news was released by the X PGA Tour Communications account, which posted the following text:

"Cameron Young is a WD from the World Wide Technology Championship field and replaced by Sean O'Hair."

Cameron Young has not yet announced his reasons for withdrawing from the tournament. This is the first time he has withdrawn this season.

Cameron Young played in 21 PGA Tour events during the regular season. He made 20 cuts made and finished in six top 10s, including a runner-up finish at the Valspar Championship. The World Wide Technology Championship would be his return to competitive golf after two-and-a-half months.

He qualified for the first two events of the FedEx Cup playoffs, but failed to finish in the top 30 and was eliminated from the Tour Championship.

However, Cameron Young finished 44th in the FedEx Cup standings, which guaranteed him a Tour card for next season. He also earned a spot in the field for all 2025 Signature Events.

Young is one of the top players on the PGA Tour who has yet to win a tournament at this level. Young began his professional career in 2019 and joined the PGA Tour in 2022, when he won Rookie of the Year.

In the absence of Cameron Young, Max Greyserman is the highest-ranked golfer in the World Wide Technology Championship field (40th). Greyserman, Tom Hoge and Austin Eckroat are the only three members of the FedEx Cup Top 50 playing in the tournament.

Sean O'Hair replaces Cameron Young in the World Wide Technology Championship

With Young's withdrawal, the first alternate has taken his place in the World Wide Technology Championship field. He is Sean O'Hair, who is ranked 190th on the FedEx Cup Fall Ranking.

O'Hair is a player who began his professional career in 1999 and has played 432 tournaments on the PGA Tour. Between 2005 and 2011, he won four tournaments at that level: the 2005 John Deere Classic, the 2008 PODS Championship (now the Valspar Championship), the 2009 Quail Hollow Championship (now the Wells Fargo Championship) and the 2011 Canadian Open.

In 2024, O'Hair played in only 11 PGA Tour events. He made six cuts and his best finish was a tie for 18th at the Corales Puntacana Championship.

O'Hair spent the remainder of the season on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he played in 10 events. He made only one cut (the Panama Championship) and finished tied for fifth.

Sean O'Hair will be playing in the same group as Harry Hall and Austin Eckroat. His first-round tee time will be 2:38 Eastern Time.
