Charley Hull details injury affecting her game at the Olympics amid rumors of her withdrawal, says it’s ‘not the smoking’
Charley Hull is the third-last on the Olympic leaderboard after the first round. She sits at 58 with 9 over 81 and displayed an array of bogeys in the opening round. After the round, when Hull was asked about her poor performance, she stated that her injury affected the round, not the halt on her smoking habits.
The Olympics has a strict rule that restricts smoking on the course. Charley Hull, who takes a puff to calm herself down, knew she'd not be allowed to do that in Paris. Recently, as she joined a presser after her first round, Charley Hull detailed how her injury woes affected her game and not the smoking ban.
“Just because I've been injured. I don't think a lot of people realise that I did pull out of the Aramco team series and I did take like ten days off golf and had an MRI and everything. I think that is 100 % why, not the smoking,” Charley Hull said (ASAP Sports).
She further detailed how the injury was caused in the first place and explained how she felt rusty for being out of practice for rehabilitation.
“Fell overcoming out of the shower before I was getting my flight, I thought I tore my thing -- nothing come up. I just have a bit of arthritis now in my shoulder…I feel a bit rusty because obviously it's been five weeks since I last played properly a four-day event,” she said.
Further, Charley Hull also explained how the injury wouldn't be the reason to withdraw from the Olympics. In her opening round, the English golfer double bogeyed the first hole, followed by three more bogeys on holes 6, 7 and 9. In the back nine, she had four bogeys.
This is Hull's second appearance at the Olympics. Her first time was in 2016 when the golfer finished at T7.
