Collin Morikawa gets honest about Scottie Scheffler’s big lead, talking about being last in the feature group

Collin Morikawa, second place on the Tour Championship leaderboard, is four strokes behind leader Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler's score after two rounds stands at 21-under. Morikawa and Scheffler will tee off in the last group for the third round.

In an interview post-second round, Morikawa was asked if it would be nice to play alongside Scheffler in the same group in the third round.

Morikawa replied:

“A little bit. He's such a good player that you just know he's going to keep going low and making birdies. I saw that firsthand. I've seen it for years. For me, it's just keep my foot on the gas and keep sticking to my game plan,” Morikawa said (via ASAP Sports).

Morikawa further said of Scheffler:

"[H]e's going to continue to make birdies. He's driving it really, really well here and you're giving yourself enough wedges to make some scoring opportunities out there."

Regarding his play in the second round, Morikawa was asked if he got anxious on the 17th tee. He said:

“It was a little on our left line, and we got a little lucky. It was our max left. You just never know.”

Currently, Scheffler's score is 131. In the opening round, he shot two birdies along with a bogey on the first nine holes. He then dropped five birdies on the back nine to finish at 64. In the second round, he carded three birdies on the front nine. He shot three more birdies on the back nine to finish at 66.

Morikawa's total is at 129, two shots behind Scheffler. In the first round, Morikawa scored a birdie on hole six and six consecutive birdies from holes 10 to 15. His score was 66 at the end of the round. In the second round, Morikawa dropped a total of nine birdies to finish at 63.
