"Crowds will be pretty special"- LIV Golf's Tyrrell Hatton happy to be back playing DP World Tour's British Masters
Tyrrell Hatton leads the DP World Tour's British Masters after two rounds. The event is being played at The Belfry and marks Hatton's return to the European circuit after more than seven months.
Following his second round performance, Hatton gave a brief interview to the press covering the event. The Englishman took the opportunity to talk about how much it means to play on home soil with the support of the fans.
Here's part of what Hatton had to say (via ASAP Sports):
"I think any time we get to play in England, fans always come out and have good support. Yeah, I'm definitely enjoying that. As I said earlier, looking forward to the weekend. I think crowds will be pretty special."
Hatton had not played a DP World Tour event since early 2024 when he joined LIV Golf. Since then, he has played exclusively on the Saudi-backed league, with the sole exception of the Majors.
The British Masters is the first tournament to award European Rankings points for the 2025 Ryder Cup. Hatton is one of the LIV Golf players with aspirations to make the team.
As a result, the Englishman has confirmed his participation in the Open de EspaƱa. According to DP World Tour rules, Tyrrell Hatton must play in at least four events during the season to keep his Tour card.
A look at Tyrrell Hatton's performance at the British Masters
Tyrrell Hatton had never played at The Belfry before as a pro. As he said during his interview on Friday, he had only played the course once when he was 17 years old.
However, Hatton quickly adapted to the demands of the course. In the first round, he made five birdies and three bogeys (3 under) to temporarily tie for 5th.
During the second round, Hatton went deep thanks to eight birdies and one bogey (7 under). His score of 10 under for 36 holes put him at the top of the leaderboard, one stroke ahead of three players tied for second.
Hatton is the only LIV player in the field at the British Masters. However, reserve player Laurie Canter is also playing at The Belfry and finished the second round in T26 on 2 under.
The Englishman has played in all 12 LIV Golf events in the 2024 season. He won in Nashville at 19-under and has five other top-10 finishes, including a tie for second at the London event.
Tyrrell Hatton is currently tied for 3rd in the LIV Golf individual rankings. The Englishman trails Joaquin Niemann and Jon Rahm.
As for his team, Legion XIII, it has also had a very successful year with four wins and one third-place finish in 12 events.
