Did Jackson Koivun make the cut at 2024 Memorial Tournament? 19-year-old amateur’s scores explored

While many top names faltered at the Memorial Tournament, 19-year-old amateur Jackson Koivun made the cut after 36 holes of play. Despite shooting a 4-over 76 on Friday, June 7, he made it to the weekend, aggregating at 4-over.

Koivun, a college freshman, earned his place in the Memorial Tournament by winning the Jack Nicklaus Award for Player of the Year. The only amateur in the 73-player Signature event didn't let the opportunity go to waste, making it to the weekend in his debut PGA Tour start.

Jackson Koivun carded an even-par 72 in the opening round and tied for 26th after the day's play. The following day, he started with a bogey and a double bogey to end the front nine at 39.

On the 10th hole, he made another double bogey, and it seemed he might miss the cut. However, he pulled himself back into the game with two straight birdies on the 14th and 15th holes. Although he bogeyed the final hole, it was enough to keep him within the cutline.

Following his round, the 19-year-old golfer said the conditions at Muirfield Village were the hardest he had ever played.

"I'm pretty happy with how I played," he said as per PGA Tour. "When I missed the fairway I wasn't very smart in what I did, but other than that I played solid. It means so much to come out here with that sponsor's exemption and hopefully make the cut and play this weekend."

Jackson Koivun has had an outstanding record in college golf and has received multiple accolades. He is the first-ever golfer in NCAA history to win all three collegiate Player of the Year awards and Freshman of the Year in the same season.

Besides winning the Jack Nicklaus Award, he also claimed the Haskins Award, the Ben Hogan Award, and the Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award.
