Did Phil Mickelson lose weight? Weight loss of LIV Golfer at PGA Championship 2023 explored

Phil Mickelson made waves in 2021 after winning the PGA Championship. He became the oldest ever player to win a major at the age of 50 years and 11 months. While he did not attend in 2022, Mickelson is back for the 105th edition of the PGA Championship at Oak Hill.

This edition was also special for Mickelson, as he made his 100th major cut, becoming only the third golfer to do so. However, Mickelson's journey after 2021 has been a matter of perseverance for him.

Phil Mickelson has lost a whopping 25 pounds over the last few months and has maintained the lost weight coming into the PGA Championship. At 52, he is looking fitter and more determined than ever. The six-time Major winner shocked the world at the 2023 Masters with a skinnier body.

Phil Mickelson maintained a strict diet and consistent exercise regimen, which helped him lose weight. His hard work certainly paid off as he finished T2 at the Masters. Speaking about the success of his weight loss, Mickelson said via Golf Digest:

"I needed something different, and I'm having a lot of fun having three teammates and having a different energy and a fun environment. I want to play and compete at that level. And I'm going to figure it out."

Phil Mickelson spoke about how hard it was for him to avoid unhealthy food. The golfer has now started intermittent fasting, which, coupled with his exercise routine, has helped him drop weight. However, Mickelson not only lost fat but also muscle. To counteract this, he has been consistently lifting to increase his strength.

"Whenever you’re that elite, it’s always the best bottle of wine, or the nicest dinners, because if you’re going to have dinner with Phil, you’re not going to go just down the road. There’s a lot of opportunity to have the best of the best and it’s hard to say no."

Mickelson has finished his 2023 PGA Championship and currently sits at T59 with a +10 after four rounds. However, his historic weekend has proven to be one of perseverance and dedication and shows the progress that the almost 53-year-old has made thanks to a change in lifestyle.
