Dustin Johnson cites hilarious reason why he will not watch Netflix’s Full Swing
Dustin Johnson, one of LIV Golf's biggest stars, will not be watching the Full Swing documentary television show, which dropped on Netflix.
The Full Swing television show is attempting to give fans an inside look at the game of golf right now. It can be argued that there has been no better time for something like this than the present, with the divide between LIV and PGA Tour being front and center.
Despite playing a role in the creation, Johnson won't watch the show. When pressed on the matter, he gave a hilarious reason why he's not interested via Sports Illustrated:
“Probably not. I’m just being honest. Zero. I watched them film me, so I don’t need to watch the episode.”
Since Johnson saw them filming himself for the episode, he doesn't feel there's anything to gain. Obviously, Johnson's not interested in watching his competitors or learning how PGA Tour players feel about him and his LIV counterparts.
In the episode featuring Dustin Johnson, the golfer revealed why he chose to join LIV Golf:
“For me, it was playing less, and making more money. Pretty simple. If someone offered anyone a job, doing the same thing they were already doing, but less time at the office and they’re gonna pay them more, pretty sure you’re going to take it. And something wrong with you if you didn’t.”
Many people felt the same way, which is a big reason why LIV has poached so much talent. The money talks, and it's especially loud for those who aren't considered elite golfers on the PGA Tour.
Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia no longer sponsored by Adidas
Dustin Johnson and his LIV Golf counterpart Sergio Garcia are no longer being represented by Adidas, Johnson's long-time sponsor.
Adidas Golf president Jeff Lienhart said in a statement via Golf.com:
“We’ve mutually agreed to part ways with long-time Adidas athlete Dustin Johnson. For more than 15 years, Dustin has been a great ambassador for the Adidas brand. We’ve had a front-row seat to see him win multiple major championships, ascend to the No. 1 ranking and cement himself as one of the best golfers in history — all while wearing the 3-Stripes. We wish Dustin nothing but success moving forward.”
The company confirmed that they are not renewing Garcia's contract as well. It's unclear if their position on LIV had anything to do with the decision.
According to a source, Johnson actually wanted out of his contract:
“DJ needed a clean break to start his team. He’s grateful to Adidas for letting him out of the deal.”
Part of that fresh start is with his team at LIV Golf, the 4 Aces. The team looks a little different this season, with Johnson, Patrick Reed and Pat Perez returning. Peter Uihlein will take the place of Talor Gooch.
