Emiliano Grillo surprises fans as he arrives at the WM Phoenix Open with Lionel Messi’s FIFA World Cup-winning jersey
Emiliano Grillo is currently participating in the WM Phoenix Open. The week has already had a couple of unusual activities. First, it was Stewart Cink sporting the Phoenix Suns jersey No. 36 celebrating their trade for Kevin Durant. Then on Friday, a streaker intruded on the famous Par-3 16 hole.
Adding to the list was the Argentine golfer showing off Leonel Messi's No. 10 jersey to the crowd on Friday, February 10. The PGA Tour posted the video on its official account, which drew a lot of mixed reactions.
Here is a look at a few of the reactions:
"This must have been an incredible feeling. I'm sure @GrilloEmiliano will remember that for many years to come. Congrats Emiliano!"
"The crowd was like 'why’s this guy showing a white and blue shirt.'"
"Bien por esaaaa !! No importa hacer 1000 golpes en ese mítico hoyo, pero qué lindo es haber hecho esto!!🤣🤣👍👍👋👋"
"Lots of confused faces."
"Who cares about that ? Makes me seek ."
However, Grillo's performance at WM Phoenix Open was underwhelming as he failed to make the cut after two rounds. He scored 70 and 72 on the first days at the WM Phoenix Open.
Scottie Scheffler leads the WM Phoenix Open after the first two days
Reigning champion Scottie Scheffler completed the second round of 64 to take the lead over local favorite Jon Rahm at WM Phoenix Open.
The World No. 2 played 25 holes on Friday as the game was suspended due to darkness on Day 1. He completed the first round at 3-under 68 and played a bogey-free second round to score 10 under after 36 holes. Scheffler led Rahm and Canadian Adam Hadwin by two strokes when play was halted due to darkness.
Rahm finished the first round at 3-under 68 and second at 5-under 66 to have a possible battle for the World No. 1 on Sunday.
As per Scheffler, that would be fun.
"It looks like right now we're 1 and 2, but we'll see how things shake out," said Scheffler. " A lot of guys still have a lot of golf out there to play. Should be a fun weekend."
Hadwin still has eight more holes to complete in the second round as none of the afternoon starters were able to complete their round.
Last year, Scheffler won his first PGA Tour title at TPC Scottsdale, beating Patrick Cantlay in a playoff. Scheffler added three more wins in 2022 with a triumph in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, WGC-Match Play, and Masters. He was also declared the PGA TOUR's player of the year.
Rahm had already won two tournaments last month with the Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. He is yet to taste success at TPC Scottsdale with his best finish being in T-5 in 2015 as an amateur. This year might be better.
McIlroy did much better than the previous day with a score of 5 under 46 after 13 holes. He will play from the 14th hole on Saturday. He has won in his last two starts on the PGA Tour; the TOUR Championship in August and the CJ CUP in October, and will be eying for the third PGA victory in a row.
The World No. 1 also won the DP World Tour's Dubai Desert Classic a couple of weeks ago, his first start of the year.
