"Exciting duel against Bryson and Brooks"- Rory McIlroy excited to play LIV vs. PGA matchup in Las Vegas
Irish professional golfer Rory McIlroy recently played in the Tour Championship at the East Lake Golf Club. After four rounds, McIlroy finished tied for 9th place. While the PGA Tour veteran is done with one important tournament, he will be involved in another later this year.
Rory McIlroy will team up with World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to take on LIV Golf's Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka. In a conversation with Golfweek, McIlroy confirmed his participation in the event and expressed his excitement. The 4-time major winner said:
“I’m thrilled to partner with Scottie in what promises to be an exciting duel against Bryson and Brooks in Vegas this December,” he wrote in a text message. “This isn’t just a contest between some of golf’s major champions; it’s an event designed to energize the fans. We’re all here to put on a great show and contribute to a goodwill event that brings the best together again.”
Along with the confirmation of Rory McIlroy, the agents of the other three golfers have also confirmed their participation. This match which will stack up the PGA Tour golfers against LIV Golf golfers will take place in mid-December and it will be broadcast in the United States on the TNT Network.
How much did Rory McIlroy earn at the 2024 Tour Championship?
As mentioned above, the Tour Championship, which is the final stage of the FedEx Cup playoff, witnessed Rory McIlroy tie for 9th place. The Irish professional shot 69-69 in the first two rounds and bettered his performance in rounds 3 & 4 by shooting 68-66.
The Tour Championship had a total purse of $100 million. Rory McIlroy took home a total of $1,608,333 for his T9 finish. The largest share of the $100 million purse went to Scottie Scheffler who earned $25 million. Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala who finished 2nd and 3rd, earned $12,500,000 and $7,500,000 respectively.
