Former Masters winner Hideki Matsuyama was robbed at London Airport during a layover after returning from the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Japanese golfer recently won a bronze medal at the Paris Games and experienced an unfortunate incident in London.
Matsuyama lost his wallet in the robbery, while his coach, Mikihito Kuromiya, and caddie, Shota Hayato, lost their passports. The team members had to return to Japan to request expedited travel documents, while Matsuyama will proceed to the FedEx Cup Playoffs this week.
Taiga Tabuchi will be joining Matsuyama as a caddie for the upcoming FedEx Cup Playoffs. Meanwhile, his caddie and coach may not be able to arrive in the US before the Tour Championship.
Notably, Hideki Matsuyama had an impressive outing at the Paris Olympics, winning the first medal for Japan in golf at the prestigious games. He shot four rounds of 63, 68, 71, and 65 to secure the bronze. Scottie Scheffler claimed gold, while Tommy Fleetwood took silver.
Following the Paris Olympics, PGA Tour players competed at the Wyndham Championship, but Matsuyama missed the event. He will next tee off this week in Memphis for the FedEx Cup St. Jude Championship.

The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings will tee off at the FedEx St. Jude Championship this week, with the first round starting on August 15. The PGA Tour event will begin at 8:20 a.m. ET, with players teeing off in groups of two on the first hole.
Hideki Matsuyama will be paired with fellow PGA Tour star Sahith Theegala, and they will begin their first round at 1:35 p.m. ET. On Friday, they will tee off at 10:25 a.m. ET.
Matsuyama is among the favorites to win the St. Jude Championship. According to Forbes, his odds for the tournament are +2500 while Scottie Scheffler is the top favorite with odds of +330.
