Former PGA Tour pro dubs Sahith Theegala's golf club setup the 'most unusual' on Tour
Former PGA Tour golfer Smylie Kaufman believes that Sahith Theegala has an atypical golf bag on the PGA Tour. The NBC/Golf Channel analyst recently took to X and listed the combination of clubs Theegala carries in his golf bag.
The list includes driver, 4 wood, 3 iron, 9 wood, 8 iron, 9 iron, wedges and more.
“Sahith Theegala may have the most unusual golf club setup of any Tour player…Driver 4 wood 3 iron 9 wood (in place of 4 iron) 5 iron 6 iron 8 + iron 8 iron 9 iron Wedges Putter,” Kaufman wrote on X.
Sahith Theegala uses clubs from PING and has a wide variety in his bag. Sahith Theegala aims big at the Presidents Cup
This week, Sahith Theegala is playing at the Presidents Cup for the US Team led by Jim Furyk. He is the first Indian-American in the biennial tournament and has bigger ambitions for his team.
“The spin on the tournament is a little bit disrespectful towards them. They have been blown out in the tournament a decent amount of times, but a lot of the matches are closer than what the final score would seem. They lost a few cups by just a little bit…If we play our best, we’re going to be really hard to beat…We just know they’re going to fight and bring it, but we’re ready for it,” Theegala said, via Forbes.
Theegala also explained how fortunate he felt to be a part of the team and felt proud to be an automatic qualifier.
“It’s a huge deal for me. I’m not a big goal setter or expectation haver but this is one of the few times where I laid out at the start of the year to my team…Another thing I stated at the start of the year was, ‘I don’t want to get picked, I want to make it on my own, on points’ and that fired me up the whole year,” he added.
Team USA won all five matches against the international team in the Thursday fourball. Theegala contributed to that by winning a match with Collin Morikawa against Min Woo Lee and Adam Scott.
