“Frustrated, Disappointed” Bryson DeChambeau Addresses Not Playing for US in Paris Olympics
Bryson DeChambeau registered his second major victory at the 2024 U.S. Open, capturing the attention of the audience with his consistent play. He is currently ranked in the top 10 in the world, and should have ideally been on his way to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
However, Bryson DeChambeau will not be a part of the United States team. The rules for the Olympics state that only four golfers from each country will be a part of the team. These four golfers are decided through the OWGR Rankings.
Unfortunately for him, Bryson DeChambeau's T6 finish at the Masters, 2nd place finish at the PGA Championship and win at the U.S. Open will not be enough to get him a ticket to the quadrenniel event. Speaking about his exclusion from the team, DeChambeau said on the PatMcAfee Show:
"I'm frustrated, disappointed, sure. I made the choices that I made and there’s consequences to that and I respect that. Hopefully sooner or later we figure it out and get past that."
The OWGR does not award ranking points to the LIV Golf Series, which has deprived the likes of DeChambeau and Koepka from staying at the top in the World Rankings. The official US team for the 2024 Paris Olympics will comprise Scottie Scheffler (No. 1), Xander Schauffele (No. 3), Wyndham Clark (No. 5) and Collin Morikawa (No. 7).
Bryson DeChambeau hopes to play in the Olympics after the 'game of golf is figured out'
DeChambeau did not participate in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Having missed his opportunity this year as well, he still holds out hope that one day the war between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour will end and he will be able to take part in the Olympics.
"I would love to represent the United States. It was tough for me not to go last time because of Covid. Hopefully one day this game of golf will get figured out and come back together and I will be able to play. I'm playing great golf, I am excited," he said.
Bryson DeChambeau's performance at the 2024 U.S. Open was an impressive one, especially considering how tough Pinehurst Course #2 was to handle. He beat Rory McIlroy by one stroke to pick up his second U.S. Open victory.
Rory McIlroy however, will be going to the Olympics alongside Shane Lowry, representing Ireland. Ludvig Aberg and Alex Noren have successfully made the Swedish team. Other prominent golfers that will be at the Olympics include LIV Golfer Jon Rahm, Hideki Matsuyama and Matthieu Pavon.
Jon Rahm has managed to stay in the top 10 in the world, despite leaving for LIV Golf at the beginning of the season. He is the highest ranked golfer from Spain and will be a part of their team this year.
