German LPGA golfer Isi Gabsa kills a bird on the 12th hole in US Open Women's Major

A bird flew into the US Women's Open Major and came into contact with German LPGA star Isi Gabsa's ball. She struck a ball that flew high in the air and came down towards the green. The bird was hit while standing on the green and not flying through the air.

The ball bounced off the bird, leaving it lifeless, and continued rolling closer to the 12th hole. Despite the interruption, Gabsa turned in a pretty nice shot, leaving her with a medium putt to make. Officials came on and removed the deceased bird afterwards.

The announcers said via TMZ:

"And on our list of bizarre things that we have seen on the 12th hole, I mean, this one's kind of sad, takes the cake -- bird sitting on the green, minding its own business. Brutal."

The caption of the video shared on X references perhaps the most famous example of a bird infiltrating sports. A little over 23 years ago, Randy Johnson, Hall of Fame MLB pitcher, threw a pitch that curved right into the flight path of a bird that was near home plate.

It erupted into feathers and was gone. Similarly, the impact of Isi Gabsa's golf ball resulted in a quick death. Birds are always going to be a consideration for any outdoor sport, but it's rare for them to make an impact on events like what transpired at the US Open.

Isi Gabsa has not played particularly well thus far at the Women's U.S. Open Major. She is currently three over through the completion of one round.

Gabsa is in a tie for 93rd, though this is partly due to the fact that several golfers are still on the first or second hole. Nevertheless, a +3 showing in round one doesn't imply a run for the trophy later on this weekend.

However, she is still not struggling quite as badly as World No. 1 Nelly Korda. Korda is 10 over through one round and is tied for the fourth-highest score thus far.
