Happy Gilmore legend impressed by kids' Scottie Scheffler and arresting officer Halloween costume
Shooter McGavin, the legendary character from Happy Gilmore, was highly impressed by kids dressing up as Scottie Scheffler for Halloween. Recently, pictures of two children went viral on the internet, where they recreated the infamous arrest scene of World No. 1. Scheffler had been arrested earlier this year for reckless driving and allegedly injuring a police officer during the 2024 PGA Championship.
A golf fan dressed his kids in orange jumpsuits, similar to the one Scheffler wore in his mugshot after the arrest. The kids staged the scene, with one dressed as Scheffler and the other as the arresting police officer.
Shooter McGavin, portrayed by Christopher McDonald in the iconic 1996 film Happy Gilmore, reshared the photos on his X (formerly Twitter) account, commenting:
"These kids win Halloween costume of the year."
McDonald is best known for his role as the villainous professional golfer in Happy Gilmore, which starred Adam Sandler in the lead. The film recently announced a sequel.
As for the scene the kids recreated, it stems from an incident in May when Scheffler was detained by police at the gates of the Valhalla Golf Course. Reports claimed that he drove off when officers attempted to stop him, allegedly injuring one in the process. Scheffler, however, stated that the situation was a misunderstanding. He said:
"This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers. It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I'm hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.
"Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective," he added.
The case was eventually dropped by the court.
Christopher McDonald set to reprise iconic role in Happy Gilmore 2
The iconic golf comedy Happy Gilmore is returning for its second installment nearly three decades after the original. The highly anticipated sequel will feature the return of the original cast, including Adam Sandler, Christopher McDonald, and Julie Bowen.
The movie centers around Happy Gilmore, a short-tempered ice hockey player who transitions into pursuing golf after discovering his unique talent for the sport. McDonald, who portrayed Shooter McGavin, the main antagonist, will reprise his role, alongside Modern Family star Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit. Sandler will also reprise his character of happy Gilmore.
Additionally, professional golfers might also appear in the film. Recently, PGA Tour legend John Daly hinted at his involvement, mentioning in an interview with Mike Gunzelman that he had "already filmed" for the movie. Daly said:
"I've already filmed. We're getting it done. Coming out on Netflix, maybe in March, April of next year."
NFL star Travis Kelce is also set to make a guest appearance in the movie.
