“He almost f**king ran me over”: Scottie Scheffler’s arresting officer’s bodycam footage released
Scottie Scheffler's arrest during the 2024 PGA Championship took the golf world by storm. While the charges against Scheffler were dropped earlier this week, new footage from Scheffler's arresting officer, Bryan Gillis, has now been officially released.
Gillis did not have his camera on during the time of Scottie Scheffler's arrest. However, he switched it on soon after, and captured the aftermath. Meeting with his colleague, Gillis explained that Scottie Scheffler said he wanted to go to the Valhalla Course.
At that time, the road to the Valhalla Golf Course was closed off due to a fatal pedestrian crash. When Gillis denied Scheffler entry, the former claimed that the latter moved his car regardless of the instructions. Talking about why he did not switch on his body cam, Gillis said:
"No I wasn't at the time. I wasn't expecting to be run over."
During the incident, Gillis was said to have received a wrist injury, a leg injury and a rip in his $80 pants. In response to a question regarding his well-being following the incident, Gillis stated:
"My wrist hurts, my knee hurts, he almost f**king ran me over."
The arresting officer then took a look at Scheffler's car, before taking his wallet out of his gym bag.
Following dismissal of all charges, Scottie Scheffler talks about distress from arrest incident
The World No. 1 golfer's arraignment was scheduled for June 3, 2024. Ahead of the arraignment, the Louisville Metro PD gave an update on the situation. They stated that the arresting officer would face 'corrective action' for not switching on his body cam during the arrest.
After Scheffler's arraignment, it was also announced that all charges against him would be dropped. Jefferson county attorney Mike O’Connell said via the Guardian:
“Based upon the totality of the evidence, my office cannot move forward in the prosecution of the charges filed against Mr Scheffler. Mr Scheffler’s characterization that this was a ‘big misunderstanding’ is corroborated by the evidence."
During the Memorial Tournament, Scottie Scheffler spoke briefly about the arrest, and mentioned that it was hard for him to move on from the incident. Speaking via the Mirror, he said:
“I definitely haven’t moved past it. I would say that I still haven’t a 100 per cent moved past it. Yeah, the charges are dropped, but it’s now almost more appropriate for people to ask me about it and to be honest with you, it’s not something that I love reliving, just because it was fairly traumatic for me being arrested going into the golf course."
Scottie Scheffler said that he did not wish to sue the Louisville Metro Police Department or any of its officers.
