"He played more for himself" - Jon Rahm's caddie Adam Hayes gets candid about the 2024 LIV Golf Championship win
On Sunday, September 15, Jon Rahm claimed the latest LIV Golf Championship after triumphing at LIV Golf Chicago. Following Rahm's win, his caddie, Adam Hayes, spoke candidly about the victory.
Rahm entered the Bolingbrook Golf Club with a three-point lead over Joaquin Niemann in the standings. He maintained his performance in the final individual event of the season and beat Niemann and Sergio Garcia by a three-stroke margin to win the LIV Golf Individual Championship.
After the win, Rahm's caddie, Hayes, reflected on Rahm's mindset this season.
"You know, this year had a lot of expectations and different stuff and it's hard to not listen to the people," he said. "So when you have those expectations and it's been a tough year for a lot of different reasons."
"But you know I keep saying get organized, like the last since Valderrama, (Rahm's) game was good, the new shaft and driver and then just he had a plan. I felt that being in the area just kind of almost played more to prove people wrong. And then the last part of the year, I think he played more for himself," he continued.
Earlier in the interview, Hayes revealed that Jon Rahm wasn't feeling great on Friday but managed the ball well over the weekend and played a pretty organized game in the final two rounds.
"No bogeys, a lot of fairways, which are hard to hit out here," he added. "The fairways were the firmest I've seen other than maybe a few Open Championships. So it put a premium on the tee ball. So we did that very well and then were able to give ourselves enough good looks to get it done."
