"Hopefully it is my turn"- Tommy Fleetwood makes run for victory at Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship
Tommy Fleetwood is in contention to win the 2024 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship this week. The English golfer tied for third place at 15-under, just three strokes behind leader Paul Waring after Saturday's third round. He is looking ahead to the final round on Sunday, November 10, to win the eighth European Tour event of his career.
Tommy Fleetwood opened up about his performance at this week’s DP World Tour playoff event. During the press conference after the third round, he was asked what it meant for him if he triumphed at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship for the third time in his career. Replying to the reporter, the 33-year-old golfer said (via ASAP Sports):
"We'll see. I suppose when you're three back it's not quite in your hands, but I'll do a bit of practise now. I'll go out tomorrow, try my best. I'll either play really well, play average or don't play well at all.
"But hopefully it's another good day and I continue to show form, and actually find myself up there contending from the back nine. And who knows, I'll just concentrate on my own game and go out there and try my hardest. Hopefully it is my turn," he added.
Fleetwood has enjoyed remarkable success on the European Tour, having won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship twice in his career. His first victory at the tournament came in 2017 when he defeated Dustin Johnson and Pablo Larrazabal by just one stroke. The Brit successfully defended his title after beating Ross Fisher by two strokes.
