John Catlin replaced Legion XIII captain Jon Rahm in the semifinals of the LIV Golf Team Championship, but that didn't affect the team's performance much. While Catlin lost his singles match, Legion XIII was able to beat HyFlyers GC 2-1.

On Saturday, September 21, Legion XIII entered the Maridoe Golf Club as the second seed, securing four wins this season. However, the team suffered a massive blow when their captain, Jon Rahm, was forced to withdraw from the semifinals due to the flu. Wildcard John Catlin was announced as the replacement for the Spaniard.

Catlin was up against Cameron Tringale in the first singles match of the Team Championship semifinal. Catlin held the lead after the 12th hole, but Tringale won the next two holes to even the score. Although Catlin managed to push the game to a tiebreaker, he lost on the second extra hole. Tringale made a birdie on the 20th hole to earn the first point for HyFlyers GC.

However, Legion XIII made a brilliant comeback and advanced to the finals after winning the final two matches. Tyrrell Hatton defeated Andy Ogletree 5 & 4 in the second singles, while the Caleb Surratt-Kieran Vincent duo trumped Phil Mickelson and Brendan Steele 4 & 3 to reach the finals of the Team Championship.

Following the LIV Golf Team Championship semifinal match, Tyrrell Hatton revealed that Jon Rahm was doing better.

"We exchanged a few messages probably 10 minutes ago," he said. "He sounds like he's doing a little bit better, which is good to hear."

Speaking about the match, Hatton said it was a good win for the team.

"I think whenever you're choosing a team to play, you almost give that team a little bit of an added incentive to go out there and win. But yeah, it was nice for us to do our jobs and gave ourselves a chance going into tomorrow," he added.

The 4Aces GC, the Ripper GC, and the Ironheads GC were the other three teams besides Legion XIII to advance to the finals.
