How much has Olympic gold medalist Scottie Scheffler earned from the 2024 season so far?
A gold medal victory for Scottie Scheffler at the 2024 Paris Olympics netted him just $38,000, a low total compared to what golfers can make by winning a regular tournament. This is the total before it's taxed, which will significantly decrease the amount the winner comes away with.
This has been the story for medal-winners for a very long time, and Scheffler cannot avoid it.
However, the World No. 1 has done extremely well this season even without counting the gold medal. His victories in Majors and on the PGA Tour (as well as other finishes) have earned him a lot of money. In total, Scheffler has come away with $28,148,692 for all his tournament starts.
That includes the Masters, the Players Championship, the RBC Heritage, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Memorial Tournament and the Travelers Championship, which are his victories this season.
Scheffler also has not missed a cut this year, so he's earned at least some money every single time he's played. That includes a T5 at the Sentry Championship, a T3 at the WM Phoenix Open, a T2 at the Houston Open and a T2 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, among others.
Scheffler is far and away the most well-paid athlete in golf this season. In second place is Xander Schauffele, who has just over half of what Scheffler has made. On the back of two Major wins, Schauffele has earned $15,867,160.
Scheffler's season winnings alone would rank 52nd all-time, just ahead of Jason Dufner and Mike Weir. As it stands, this season has vaulted Scheffler into the top five earners, though he still has a long way to go to catch Tiger Woods, the all-time leader.
Scottie Scheffler discusses Jon Rahm
Partway through the fourth and final round, it looked as if the Olympic gold was Jon Rahm's to lose. Unfortunately, he did just that. He faltered on the back nine and Scottie Scheffler and others took advantage.
Scheffler was scoreboard-watching, as he said via ESPN:
"I saw that Rahm had gotten to 20-under, and so I kind of changed a little bit mentally to just really try to do my best to move my way up the leaderboard, and at one point I didn't even really know if I was in contention or not."
Ultimately, Scheffler was able to climb the leaderboard and overtake everyone:
"I just tried to do my best to make some birdies and start moving up and maybe get a medal or something like that just because Jon is such a great player."
Thanks to Rahm's letdown and a bogey and par combination on the 17th and 18th by Tommy Fleetwood, the gold medal was awarded to the United States' very own Scottie Scheffler.
