"I was a beast when I was 8"- Sahith Theegala looks back at his 'prime' age in golf, when he was winning many tournaments

In the past two years, Sahith Theegala has won his first PGA Tour title and recorded multiple top tens. However, he believes his prime was about eighteen years ago when he was just eight years old.

Theegala is in action this week at the BMW Championship, the second event of the FedEx Cup playoffs. He is currently eighth in the FedEx Cup standings this season.

On Tuesday, August 20, the PGA Tour shared a video on X where Sahith Theegala reviews various clips comparing his golf swings at different stages of his life.

"I think this was when I was eight years old," he said while looking at the clip. "This was probably prime Sahith Theegala golf. I was a beast when I was eight. I felt like I won so many tournaments and I can see why."
"This swing is pretty incredible. This is probably one of the best swings I've ever made in my life when I was eight years old, but funny now that I'm 26, I'm trying to recreate a swing that I had when I was eight years old," he added.

The second clip that Theegala watches is of when he was 12 years old. He said he had gotten more control on his swing by that age.

"It's not just go ahead and rip it and grip it and rip it," he adds.

In the last part of the video, Theegala explained his current swing.

"So the whole foundation and basis of my golf swing today is taking a little bit of aspects from my earlier swings of my hip turn, my head dip, the way my upper back works," he continued.
"It all culminates to luckily being able to get to the back of the ball reasonably well. My childhood coach, Rick Hunter, who I've worked with on my swing my whole life, been working together since I was six, so 20 years now, we've made this journey from the Ayala Golf Driving Range to the PGA Tour," he concluded.

When will Sahith Theegala tee off at the BMW Championship?

Sahith Theegala is paired with Ludvig Ã…berg for the first round of the BMW Championship. The duo will tee off on Thursday, August 22, at 10:50 a.m. ET.

Theegala has appeared twice at the BMW Championship, finishing tied for fifteenth on both occasions. However, this season he has become more consistent, and fans can expect a better result this time.

The 26-year-old golfer has missed just four cuts in eighteen starts this year and has registered seven top tens, including two runner-up finishes.
