“I didn’t have enough to go out and buy a golf appropriate wardrobe”: Paige Spiranac opens up about hardships as a young golfer

Former US golfer Paige Spiranac is one of the most prominent figures in the golfing world. Post her early retirement, she has become a social media sensation with a whopping 4 million followers on Instagram.

Before joining golf, Spiranac was a gymnast and hoped to get into the Olympics one day. However, a twice-broken kneecap killed those dreams and prompted her to try golf instead. Recently, the 31-year-old appeared on the Up and Adams Show with Kay Adams. There, she discussed her initial struggles after joining golf.

The rules of golf can be very peculiar about certain things, including appropriate attire. Coming from a gymnastics background, Paige Spiranac was used to wearing leotards and couldn't afford to buy a new golf-appropriate wardrobe.

"I was a competitive gymnast before I switched over to golf. And so, I was so comfortable being in leotards and when I started playing golf I didn't have enough money to go out and buy a whole new golf appropriate wardrobe,"

She further added:

"So I would often wear athletic wear that I had just in my closet and that was leggings and tank tops. That's how I learned the game of golf on public golf courses where there wasn't a strict dress code."

The "OG Insta golf girl" then talked about how budding players can feel dissuaded from joining the sport due to wardrobe constraints.

"I think that a lot of people are scared to get into the game of golf because it can be very stuffy and it can be not very welcoming at times. Because you're so scared about what am I wearing, what am I doing, am I gonna you know upset a member at a country club or all of these things,"

Paige Spiranac has often been very vocal about the happenings in golf. She further gave advice to all the aspiring golfers who might not be able to buy golf-appropriate outfits.

"Where (as) you can go to a public golf course and when I go, I see guys in cut off jeans and tank tops and I'm wearing leggings. You can still respect the game and you can uphold the tradition of the game and it doesn't have to be all about your wardrobe,"

Spiranac is known for her fashion game on social media and shares pictures of her golf outfits frequently.

The answer is no. Paige Spiranac was a part of the first-ever Creator Classic organized by the PGA Tour. The event took place on the eve of the Tour Championship and featured 16 of the best golf content creators, including Spiranac.

It was a nine-hole play with all the participants getting to play the first eight holes. However, only the top four finishers were able to play the last hole. Sadly, Spiranac couldn't find a place in the top four and finished with a 2 over par after eight holes. It was her return to professional golf after eight years of retirement.

She seemed exhilarated about being on the course again. According to the PGA Tour, she said:

"There’s really no place for our followers to watch us in person, so to have this opportunity for us to be together in a competitive setting where they can see all of us at the same time is unlike anything we ever expected. I think it’s special for us and special for them. It’s just been a crazy, amazing experience,"
