"I drink tequila from the Claret Jug" - Xander Schauffele reflects on celebrating with two of golf's biggest trophies

Xander Schauffele recently said that among his two major championship wins this year, the PGA Championship was better for celebrating.

Schauffele had an incredible season this year, claiming two major championships in 2024. He first won the PGA Championship, beating Bryson DeChambeau by one stroke. This was his first win in two years, but he didn't have to wait long for another title as he claimed the Open Championship two months later, beating Billy Horschel and Justin Rose by two strokes.

Recently, Xander Schauffele appeared on the Gravy & The Sleaze podcast on SiriusXM PGA Tour radio. During the podcast, he compared the celebrations for both major wins.

"It depends," he said ."If you're just trying to have a few, I imagine the Claret Jug would be a nice starting place. If you're trying to get blocked out, which sounds like the direction you're going, Colt, I'm assuming the Wanamaker with how much alcohol it can fit would be the way to go.

The host Colt Knost shared that he felt the Claret Jug was for a sophisticated party, unlike the Wanamaker, which was more fun. However, Schauffele didn't go for sophistication with the former.

"I drink tequila out of the Claret Jug," he added. "I don't know how sophisticated that is, but it happened. The Wanamaker is more like a sharing thing. Bring it back to your college days," he added.

When did Xander Schauffele last play on the PGA Tour?

Xander Schauffele was last seen competing at the Zozo Championship, which took place in the last week of October at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club, Tokyo, Japan. This was his first start since the Presidents Cup, and the rustiness in his game was visible in the opening round.

Schauffele shot a 73 in the opening round, which included an eight on hole 9. He recovered in the next round and shot a 65. In the following two rounds, he carded scores of 68 and 69 to finish at 5-under, fifteen strokes behind the winner, Nico Echavarria.

Schauffele finished T41 in Tokyo, marking only his second finish outside the top 25 this year. For the uninitiated, the World No. 2 golfer made a whopping 20 top-25 finishes in 22 starts this season. Besides his two wins, he also recorded three runner-up finishes. He was also among the best performers for the US team that beat the International team in the Presidents Cup.
