“I feel worse for his ego”: Max Homa responds to fan who screamed during his putt

Max Homa, known for his upbeat attitude and ability to find humor even in tough situations, has faced a disappointing end to the 2024 season. Despite the challenges, Homa's signature wit has continued to shine through, providing fans with a lot of entertainment, especially on social media.

Homa proved this quality once again during the third round of the 2024 BMW Championship. On the 15th hole, as he was preparing to putt, a fan's loud scream disrupted the moment. Such interruptions are generally frowned upon in the sport.

Subsequently, the fan, identified as Erinn Lopez, took to X (formerly Twitter) to apologize to the American golfer, explaining that her scream was unintentional.

"Sincerest apologies to @Maxhoma for the scream while you were putting on 15 today. Our chair snapped clean in half and the next thing I knew my boyfriend was on the floor," she wrote.

Homa saw the post at the end of his third-round performance and responded to it with his characteristic humor.

"Haha I feel worse for his ego than my 3 putt so thank u for this," he wrote.

Hole 15, a 432-yard par four, presented a challenging test for Homa. His drive went into the right rough, leaving him in a precarious position near several trees. However, Homa showcased his skill, successfully navigating the difficult lie and reaching the green in two strokes.

However, he 3-putted and finished with a bogey. His second missed putt was a crucial 11-footer for par.

A look at the end of Max Homa's 2024 season

Max Homa's 2024 season has taken a different trajectory compared to 2023. He has accumulated only 3 top-10 finishes, all of which occurred between January and May. Since the PGA Championship, his best performance has been a T22 finish at the Memorial Tournament.

However, Homa managed to break into the top 70 in the FedEx Cup rankings and participate in the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Despite qualifying, he finished last at 11-under par.

His 78 in the second round at TPC Southwind tied his worst score of the season, which was a 78 in the first round of the Charles Schwab Challenge. Nevertheless, this score was sufficient to maintain his position within the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings and secure a spot in the BMW Championship.

At Castle Pines Golf Club, Homa managed scores of 74, 75, and 73, to place in a tie for 45th with one round remaining.

Homa currently sits in the 43rd position in the FedEx Cup rankings, which unfortunately disqualifies him from competing in the TOUR Championship. To secure a spot at East Lake next week, Homa must finish within the top 10 at the BMW Championship. Failing to achieve this will mark the end of his 2024 season.
