"I just want to make a revenge there"- Ruoning Yin hunts down gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Ruoning Yin missed the start of the 2024 season due to a wrist injury that is still affecting her. In fact, the Chinese golfer decided to skip the Amundi Evian Championship in order to make up for lost time with a strong showing at the Paris Olympics.

Going into the second-half of the women's golf event, Yin has achieved her aim, ranked second, one stroke behind leader Morgane Metraux. Yin enjoyed a promising second day after an even par opening round at Le Golf National.

After her second round, Ruoning Yin told Golfweek:

"On the first hole, my initial thought was I just want to make a revenge there. It was pretty good. I hit a really good putt and I just can’t see the line perfectly, and then just see the ball go into the hole was pretty good."
"Then second hole, wedge in. Leave myself a good chance for birdie, and third hole was a par 5. So birdie the third. It was pretty good start."

Ruoning Yin shot the best score of the second round (7 under) to move up to second place on the leaderboard.

Paris 2024 is Ruoning Yin's maiden Olympic experience. She began her professional career in 2020 and has 6 wins to her name, including three on the LPGA Tour (one major).

Ruoning Yin began her participation at the Olympic Games women's golf event with an even-par first round. It was the result of three bogeys and three birdies.

Yin bogeyed the first hole but reeled off three pars and two birdies over the next five holes. She bogeyed the 7th and parred the 8th and 9th to finish the front nine at even par.

On the back nine, Yin parred the first four holes and bogeyed the 14th, but quickly tied the score with a birdie on the 16th. That birdie set the score for the round, but she still had to face some challenges on the final holes.

On the 18th, Yin had to work hard to save par, as she sent her second shot into the water. After the penalty, she executed a fourth shot of such quality that she left the ball just 6 feet, 3 inches from the hole. She then made a perfect putt for par.

The second round was very different as Yin started with three consecutive birdies on the first three holes. She then birdied the 7th to finish the front nine at 4 under.

Yin added three more birdies on the back nine (11th, 14th, 18th) to finish the round bogey-free at 7 under.
