"I learn from all my mistakes"- Bryson DeChambeau clarifies his "par-67" remark about the Augusta National Golf Course
Bryson DeChambeau commented on the brute-strength length of the Augusta Golf Course back in 2020 and called the par-72 course, a par 67 for him. He recently arrived at Augusta for the 2023 Masters and spoke about his comment while talking to the media.
Bryson DeChambeau was asked if he regrets his statement during a press conference on Monday. In response, DeChambeau stated that he has no regrets about his comment, but he respects the historic Augusta Golf Course.
Bryson DeChambeau said:
“Do I regret? Everybody has a perspective on it. I don’t think I regret anything. What I do understand is that I have a lot of respect for the course. This is one of the greatest golf courses in the entire world, and if anybody thinks I don’t have respect for the course, they’d better go check out who I actually am because it’s not accurate one bit."
He added:
"I don’t want anybody to take it out of context. I just want it to be known for the fact that I have great respect for this course. Do I regret it? I learn from all my mistakes.’’
It is important to note that Bryson DeChambeau missed the cut at the 2022 Masters and his best finish in the tournament was recorded in 2016 when tied for 21st position.
DeChambeau won the US Open in 2020 and earned a five-year exemption for The Masters. So despite playing in LIV Golf, he received an invitation to the 2023 Masters.
“It’s a tough one for me" - Bryson DeChambeau opens up about his father's death
Bryson DeChambuea is coming off a difficult time after losing his father. It was tough for him. DeChambeau spoke about his father in an interview at Augusta and said:
“It’s a tough one for me. I’ve never had a traumatic experience like that in my life, and I had a lot of weird stuff happen last year. Not just going to different Tour and dad dying, I had other stuff, too. It was a huge learning year. I felt like it was just rooting me and humbling me all last year, and then this year I feel like I’m slowly progressing back again."
He continued:
“It takes time to get things back on track, but with my dad, I mean, it was not easy for a couple months. The nice part about it was that he was in a lot of pain, and he’s in a better place now, and I know that. That gave me a lot of comfort, knowing that, that he’s just in a better place compared to everything he was dealing with here, and I can take comfort in that."
Bryson DeChambeau last played at the LIV Golf Invitational Orlando, which wrapped up with the finale on Sunday, April 2. He finished in six ways in 16th position with a score of under 7 alongside Lee Westwood, Charl Schwartzel, Harold Varner III, Thomas Pieters, and Talor Gooch.
18 LIV Golf players will be playing at The Masters this week. The tournament is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 6, starting with the first round, and will wrap up with a final on Sunday, April 9.
