“I love you more than words can say”: Collin Morikawa’s wife pens heart-melting message after impressive feat
Collin Morikawa's wife, Katherine (Kat), posted a message on her personal Instagram account thanking her husband for his "constant encouragement." The two-time major champion was by his wife's side this weekend as she accomplished an impressive feat.
Kat Morikawa ran the New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 3, on behalf of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Collin Morikawa supported her the entire way and was waiting for her at the finish line.
This is the message Kat posted thanking Collin Morikawa:
"To the most supportive husband @collin_morikawa your constant encouragement kept me going and your belief in me helped me believe in myself. Knowing you were out there cheering me on made all the difference. I love you more than words can say."
Kat finished the New York Marathon course in 3 hours, 43 minutes and eight seconds, placing her 2,681st out of 24,705 women who completed the race. She finished 11,706th out of 55,523 overall.
Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands won the men's open category of the New York City Marathon with a time of 2:07:39. On the women's side, Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya won the open category with a time of 2:24:35.
Kat Morikawa was one of the celebrities who participated in the event. Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly and Grammy winner Sebastian Yatra were also among the runners.
Kat and Collin Morikawa's commitment to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital
It is no coincidence that Collin Morikawa's wife ran the New York Marathon on behalf of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Both Kat and Collin have been involved with the hospital for several years and support it with numerous initiatives.
One such initiative is a golf clinic that Collin Morikawa hosted in 2022 for pediatric patients at the hospital. More recently, he launched a campaign to donate $1,000 for every birdie he made in the season's three playoff events.
Here's what he said recently: (via Golfweek)
"My wife is going to be running the New York Marathon, and we’re going to be trying to raise as much money as we can for St. Jude, so that’s her charity beneficiary for the marathon...We’re going to be doing as much as we can throughout these playoffs and the next couple of months to help out some great kids."
Morikawa made 15 birdies at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, another 12 at the BMW Championship and 27 at the Tour Championship. This resulted in a $54,000 donation to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
The facility is located in Memphis, Tennessee and was founded in 1962 by entertainer Danny Thomas. In 2022, it was named the second best hospital in the United States for treating children with cancer.
