Keegan Bradley on finding Phil Mickelson as his partner at the Presidents Cup- "I have no clue how lucky I was to have him"
Keegan Bradley is back in the Presidents Cup after a wondrous end-of-season performance that forced Jim Furyk to select him. He was going to serve as a vice-captain before playing his way onto the team. Now that the tournament is near, he's been able to reflect on everything.
He was asked in a press conference if the return to this tournament brought back any memories of old ones. In response, he said via ASAP Sports:
"It definitely has. I have no clue how lucky I was to have Phil [Mickelson]. That was just my partner. I never came to a Presidents Cup wondering who my partner was going to be, wondering about this guy's golf ball. Am I going to play with him? Like they just came every week going we're going to play every match basically, and he's going to play my ball on alternate shot."
He believes that he now has a better sense, given his increased age, of how valuable it was playing alongside Phil Mickelson. The legendary golfer helped him in ways he didn't realize, and he's "so grateful" for that now. Bradley said he didn't know what he was doing then, but he has a much better understanding of the impact now.
Bradley joins Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Sam Burns, Sahith Theegala, Tony Finau, Max Homa, and the rest of Team USA to try and win another Cup.
Keegan Bradley reflects on return to Presidents Cup in 2024
Keegan Bradley is back at the Presidents Cup, something he wasn't sure would ever happen. He admitted in his pre-tournament presser that it was a "surreal week." Bradley said at one point, he thought he would play the Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup every single time.
Via Asap Sports, he said:
"Then there came a point in my career where I thought I would never play. I was almost sure I would never play in another one."
About a decade later, he's back, and he called it a "special week". The American added:
"I look around the room at dinners and stuff, and there's nobody there that I was on these other teams with, and Jim was playing the last time I was out here. It's been special."
He will follow this up with an appearance at the Ryder Cup next year, getting back to his alternating years. However, he won't be playing in that event, as he was tabbed as the captain for the American side.
Keegan Bradley would have served in this Presidents Cup regardless, but he played well enough to earn a captain's selection by Jim Furyk, and he is very pleased to be able to play one more Presidents Cup.
