“I'm a Denny's guy” – Sepp Straka details his ‘guilty pleasure’ like Hideki Matsuyama’s IHOP love
Hideki Matsuyama recently revealed that he enjoys IHOP as his guilty pleasure, something Sepp Straka can relate to. The golfer, while not sharing Matsuyama's feelings exactly, did reveal his preference for where to eat while on the road for tournaments on the Smylie Show with Smylie Kaufman.
Kaufman asked whether or not Matsuyama's guilty pleasure was also Straka's. The golfer replied (20:33-21:21):
"I've got plenty of guilty pleasures. I can't remember last time IHOP. I'm a Denny's guy. So in college, we played at regionals somewhere in California, we played terrible the first day. Hacker was pissed so we go to Denny's right by the hotel."
He continued:
"Next day I think we shot 20 something under we're in like third place going to the final round. So we went back to Denny's again the next night. They do all day breakfast but they've got some sort of like moons over Miami or some sandwich or something that I like. But number one T-Bone seller in the US at least that was when I was in college. Just cause they got one on every corner."
Denny's gave Straka a bit of a perceived boost, so he returns there often. However, ironically, he doesn't usually eat breakfast at the famed restaurant, instead opting for their less popular lunch and dinner entrees.
Sepp Straka details how he can win a Major
While it doesn't have anything to do with a chosen restaurant and the perceived good luck it brings, Sepp Straka does think there's something he can do to eventually win a Major.
Thus far, the golfer has tied for second at the 2023 Open Championship. That's his best finish, followed by a T7 in the 2023 PGA Championship. If he's to win, he knows what he needs to do.
Sepp Straka said via Golf.com:
“I think just keep doing what I’m doing. just gotta keep improving in my game. There’s a few things that need to be a little bit better, but I mean, overall, I think my game is good enough to win a major.”
Though he ultimately finished tied for 22nd this year, he believes the Open Championship represents his best shot at it because he likes playing in the windy conditions.
Straka added:
“I don’t hit it as high as some of these other guys. So I don’t hit it really far enough for Augusta, but yeah, I mean, even I guess, I mean, if I have a good week, there’s definitely a chance. The Open is probably my number one.”
Straka has been a pro for eight years but is still searching for his maiden Major victory.
