"I'm not a real big Mullet Rick fan" - Justin Thomas gets candid about $40M-worth rival's look change
Justin Thomas got candid while talking about the hairstyle of fellow PGA Tour player Rickie Fowler. Both American golfers joined the stellar field at this week's Zozo Championship, which started with its first round on Thursday, October 24. Fowler and Thomas played some good shots and recorded a decent finish on the leaderboard after the first round.
Justin Thomas joined the booth with George Savaricas and discussed his performance. As the camera shifted to Fowler, who has a net worth of $40 million according to Celebrity Net Worth, they discussed his hairstyle.
However, the two-time Major winner was seemingly not a fan of Fowler's "mullet" hairstyle. Speaking of Fowler, Thomas said (via Golf Week):
"I’m not a real big ‘Mullet Rick’ fan. I like the short hair Rickie. It’s wild, he looks about 5-8 years younger when he has his hair short. He always has something – it’s the stache, it’s the hair – but it’s Rick, you know, you’ve got to love him for whatever it is.”
Justin Thomas put forward a decent performance in the opening round of the Zozo Championship. He shot a round of 4-under 66. Meanwhile, Rickie Fowler shot a round of 2-under 68.
Justin Thomas made changes to his bag at the Zozo Championship
Thomas enjoyed quite a decent season this year. However, he is still seeking to win his first event of the season. At the Zozo Championship, the American made some changes to his bag, which showed results in the opening round.
Justin Thomas switched back to the Scotty Cameron TP5 mallet putter for this week. Speaking of the changes, he said (via Golf Week):
“I made some nice putts. Even some putts that I missed I felt like they were good putts. I burned a couple edges. When greens have this much break, you really have to be precise with your speed and matching everything up. I feel like I did a really good job of that.”
Speaking of his performance this season, Thomas has so far competed in 19 tournaments and made the cut in 15 of them. He has recorded five top-10 finishes.
However, after a good start at the Zozo Championship on Thursday, he had a slow start to the second round on Friday. The tournament started with its second round, and so far Thomas has played five holes, making par on all of them. But with that, he slipped down six spots on the leaderboard, tied for 13th place at the time of writing.
Meanwhile, Rickie Fowler completed 11 holes of the second round after starting on the tenth hole. He had made five birdies and a bogey so far, jumping 14 spots on the leaderboard and tied for eighth place at the time of writing. The tournament will have its finale on Sunday, October 25.
