"I didn't really expect to yell" - Max Homa calls his Open Championship cut reaction an 'out-of-body experience'
American golfer Max Homa shared his honest emotions after making the cut at The Open Championship 2024. The major tournament is underway at Royal Troon, and following the second round on Friday, July 19, Homa was fortunate to make the cut. He was on the borderline of missing it but managed to qualify for the final two rounds with two birdies on the concluding holes.
It was a dreamy round as he hit a birdie on the final hole, securing his spot above the cutline of +6. Max Homa was overjoyed after sinking the birdie on the 18th and yelled loudly to celebrate it.
Following the event, he opened up about his performance while talking to golf analyst Dan Rapaport. Homa explained that it was an "out-of-body experience" for him to make the cut at the very last moment.
"This is my favorite tournament in the world. So to have the chance to potentially play two more days, I don't know, I had an out-of-body experience. I didn't really expect to yell like I won a golf tournament. It just felt really good," Homa said (via Dan Rapaport on X).

Max Homa had a decent outing at The Open Championship 2024 so far. He had a rough start when he teed off for the major on the first day but managed to bounce back in the second round.
In the first round, Homa struggled as he started with a double bogey on the first hole before adding two more bogeys on the sixth and seventh holes. He did not make any birdies on the front nine. However, on the back nine, Homa was fortunate to make two birdies along with three bogeys, finishing with a 5-over 76.
After a rough start, he improved in the second round, shooting a double bogey and two birdies on the front nine and a triple bogey and two birdies on the back nine. This score helped him to settle for a 1-over 71, making it a total of +6. He made the cut and will tee off for the third round on Saturday, followed by the finale on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Shane Lowry topped the leaderboard with a score of -7, shooting 66 in the first round and 69 in the second round. Daniel Brown and Justin Rose tied for second place with -5.
Scottie Scheffler shot 70 in the second round and tied for fourth place with Dean Burmester and Billy Horschel, while Xander Schauffele secured the seventh spot, along with Corey Conners, Jason Day, and Patrick Cantlay.
