"I really love the pies" - Charley Hull reminisces her long history with St. Andrews, including watching Tiger Woods play there

Charley Hull is on the Old Course at St. Andrews for the AIG Women's Open, the final Major championship of the 2024 season. Hull has one particular preference on the course that is not directly related to the rich history that permeates "The Home of Golf".

During her press conference on Tuesday, August 20, Hull shared some of her experiences on the Old Course at St. Andrews. In her words, her favorite part of the course is the pies you can buy at the halfway house.

Hull said:

"I think it [one of her first times at St. Andrews] was the 2010 British Open, Men's Open Championship here. Come up to watch Tiger. And I played here that year as well or the year after in...it was an amateur event here...Yeah, just have a lot of good memories."

She added:

"And I played here again in March time, April time, and that was fun. I did something with the R&A and got to play 18 holes. But it is a really special place, and I REALLY like the pies on the halfway house. But they didn't have them here yesterday; I was gutted." [0:01 - 0:38]

Charley Hull enters the AIG Women's Open as one of the top favorites to win the title. She also leads the rankings to make the European team for the Solheim Cup.

Hull will play the first two rounds in a group with defending champion Lilia Vu and world number one Nelly Korda.

A look at Charley Hull's history at the AIG Women's Open

Charley Hull has played in 12 consecutive editions of the Women's Open since 2012. She made her first appearance as an amateur at the age of 16.

In her 12 appearances, she has made the cut seven times. She has six top-25 finishes, including a tie for second a year ago at Walton Heath when she finished six shots behind Lilia Vu.

Hull was tied for the lead with Vu with 18 holes to play but the American carded a final round score of 67 while the Brit shot a 73 to see her title aspirations fizzle out.

The result was Hull's third runner-up finish in a Major. The first was at the 2016 Chevron Championship, when she finished one shot behind now-LPGA Hall of Famer Lydia Ko, and the other was at the 2023 US Women's Open when she finished three shots behind Allisen Corpuz.

Hull's record at Major championships includes 54 starts and 39 cuts made. In addition to her three runner-up finishes, she has posted six other top-10 finishes.

Since the 2015 season, Hull has participated in every Major that has been held consecutively. At the 2020 Chevron Championship, she was forced to withdraw after starting due to a positive test for COVID-19.
