"I don't see the reason to support guys outside 100"- Byeong Hun An gives his harsh take on new 2026 PGA Tour regulations
The PGA Tour is mulling sweeping changes to things in 2026, and Byeong Hun An believes one of the changes in particular will work wonders for the tour. There are a few major proposed changes, and one of them involves limiting the number of membership cards available.
The drop from 125 possible members to only the top 100 retaining cards has been controversial, but An is in favor of it. He took to X to discuss his thoughts on the changes and he was blunt.
He began by saying that limiting the field size for some tournaments is not a bad thing, adding that the limit of overall memberships is a good change:
"I always thought when you have a “full” tour card(korn ferry graduates, q school), you should be able to play every single non signature events that you want to play. 125 to 100 fedex ranking was needed."
When someone responded and said that they wish the tour would support players outside the top 100 better, An was brutal in his reply:
"I don't see the reason to support guys outside 100. They lost their cards, but we have to support guys made it through KFT and q school."
So many players have spoken up on the new change, with a lot of them coming to the defense of the PGA Tour. An is just the latest to join in the debate.
Wyndham Clark agreed with Byeong Hun An long before PGA Tour proposed changes
With the PGA Tour set to potentially make sweeping changes in 2026, a lot of players are speaking up about the drop from 125 FedEx Cup-ranked players keeping their Tour card to 100. Most are in favor, though it's worth noting that they're not the ones on the fringe.
Byeong Hun An is the latest to join the debate, but he's not the first and won't be the last. In fact, this idea has been talked about long before the tour actually proposed changing it.
Wyndham Clark shared Byeong Hun An's and several other golfers' ideas all the way back in March. Via Golf Monthly, Clark said:
"I mean, I think it would be amazing if our Tour was a hundred guys. I kind of said this a few times, a hundred guys and we have 20 guys that get relegated every time, every year, doesn't matter who you are."
He continued:
"It would be exciting. Because you come down to the end of the year, people are looking who is going to win the FedEx Cup, and then you're looking at who is not going to be here next year. So, yeah, I'm probably with Rory on that."
This was an idea Rory McIlroy had proposed at the time, suggesting that the Tour be more "cutthroat." Clark and now An and others agree, highlighting the need to keep the tour competitive and to have "the best players" playing against one another more often, according to Clark.
